9 year old graduates high school

Mid way through grade school they suggested I skip a grade based on my math skills. Glad my parents said no. Ended up scoring well on a placement in 6th grade putting me in advanced math.

As someone else who wasn’t challenged in school I would have been better off with a more traditional path. In fact in high school I skipped taking a science class to be in a class with people my age instead of the people ahead.

That's great. Glad you represent every single person in society.

Yeah, my school wanted me to skip 2nd grade and go the 3rd grade. I would get bored but glad I didn’t. You only get so many years to be a kid. This 9 year old now gets to work an extra 10 years of his life, he’s gonna wish he had graduated sooner at age 50 I bet. (Jimlad)

I saw an article about this from the Guardian. Apparently he went to an online charter school, which generally have bad reputations. Clearly he is intelligent but going down this path will lead to poor social development.
Has anyone looked to see what kind of social development has been coming out of our schools?

He might very well be retiring at age 50.

It sounds like based on this post he's well-adjusted socially, so good for them. Because everyone clearly jumped on the "what about his social development?" aspect of the argument without once thinking for a second if forcing him to be in a class that he would get absolutely nothing out of academically all for "social development purposes" would have been good for him, either. Because as someone who wasn't challenged enough in grade school, I can tell you that's not good for kids, either.

Look at you college boy, thinking we'd actually review information and not just a title and picture.

Everyone bragging about being capable of skipping 2nd grade math.

Exactly the same situation as this kid, definitely…..

Honestly I think most competent people could graduate by like 13 now. My high school was at least a joke. Nobody wanted to skip grades but we didn't really do anything either. I don't remember bringing homework home except for projects.

I see a lot of discussion about skipping a grade in this thread. We made a decision to have our daughter skip a grade. A lot of thought went into it. I even posted a thread talking about it a few years back. We went ahead with it and it's been fine. That was 2 years ago. She's got a great group of friends, participates in lots of extracurricular activities, and gets straight A's. I'm not saying it's right for everyone, but I feel pretty confident the decision has not been a negative in her life. We're all individuals and what's right for one may not be right for another. That said I don't think that's really the same decision as having your kid graduate at 9.

Idk… this kids gonna do **** all out of order. It’s supposed to go fractions, rock and roll, chemistry, sex, calculus, drugs. Kid is gonna end up weird AF.

Let's be honest if you're capable of graduating high school at 9 you're already going to be weird AF to every other kid your age. It's inevitable. Best for him to just move on IMO.

Yeah, well my daughter said the car wouldn't start this weekend. It turns out she was pressing the gas instead of the brake while pushing the ignition.

Take THAT, 9 year old!
