Wolf Parade just reunited. If you like Modest Mouse, you'll like Wolf Parade (IIRC Isaac Brock produced their first album).
Damn, after last year, I was hoping they were going to keep the ball rolling. Yawn. Looks like I'll be heading to Chicago to see Peter Gabriel instead.
The only act I'm remotely interested in is Jeff Austin band. I suppose I'd check out lotus too but not a huge fan of electronica. This'll be a last minute decision for me.
Is it really that hard for 80/35 to find headliners that are relevant or up and coming artists? Seems like most of the bands they get were popular quite a few years ago.
Sometimes I wish they would just forget the undercard acts and go all out on two headliners and just move some of the better free stage bands to the main stage for the day.

Have you been to 80-35, the undercards are usually the better acts, this festival will never be to go after a big headliner. To me the most relevant headliners are in order: Roots/Flaming Lips, Spoon/Modest Mouse, and Wilco/Weezer. This year seems 100% directed as bands with hightly rated releases on Pitchfork, Nas, Decemberists, Wolf Parade, Black Lips, Craig Finn, Thao and Get Down and Stay Down, Vic Spencer, and Lizzo. I was like they reviewed the bands with 7 or higher on Pitchfork and reached out to them. Not that I don't like this but it feel very much like a promotion of the super Indie Pitchfork.... So far it almost feel like a smaller version of Pitchfork fest, or SXSW, trying to get ahead of band becoming relevant. I will always be a supporter as long as I am in the area, just a bit of a let down over all for the first announcement.
I just don't get the nas pick. I've been a fan of rap music (especially in my younger days) and also a fan of nas. Rap is just not good live entertainment. I would rather see Country or edm hell yanni would be better than live rap.
In general I agree, I think there is a good live translation which usually entails a full band (ala Roots, Atmosphere). The best rap I have ever seen was last year with Run the Jewels. I question the pick as well(Nas), but at least in the end I can say, I saw Nas....
After a week of listening to this lineup I have more bought into these band. Will outline the styles below at least on the non-locals:
Nas - Have always been a fan, I know a lot would say he is not relevant anymore and his last true release was 4 years ago.... But I listen to both that (Life is Good) and the re-release of Illmatic. Great stuff here, I am pretty excited to see him, but would have still rather had a band of some-sort headline...
The Decemberist - Had listen to them a little bit before but never got too deep, sound-wise they are like a mix between Death Cab for Cutie and the Avett Brothers. Mostly listened to The King is Dead, which had Down by the Water and This is Why we Fight.... They have grown on me a lot I have also heard they are very tight live and fun to watch. I am just a little surprised at the headliner title....
Wolf Parade - This band just just getting back together after breaking up for 2011, so you know there is bit of excitement to get them. The Album Apologies to the Queen is getting re-released in May, and this album is awesome from front to back, produced by Issac Brock of Modest Mouse and has a great Indie-Rock sound unique to this band... Very excited to see them... Favorite tracks, Shine the Light or This Heart's on Fire.....
The Black Lips - A great garage punk band, with a lazy no-care sound and amazingly crazy live shows (watch some youtube if you want a taste, did a live show/album in Tijuana).... Their newer stuff is a little more polished and kind of down the line as a Cage the Elephant mixed with Iggy and the Stooges..... They are a huge get a highlight for me... Good Bad Not Evil and Arabian Mountain are my favorite albums. Track-wise Bad Kids or Family Tree
Craig Finn - Love The Hold Steady, was not into his solo stuff too much, but listened to the new album and recent EP and both are similar to any Hold Steady album with maybe more vocals than spoken lyrics. I just hope he breaks out a few Hold Steady songs, South Town Girls, Little Houdrate Friend, or Stay Positive....
Colleen Green - Super pumped for her as an unknown coming in, she recorded with Jeff the Brotherhood on recent albums, early recording and live shows are her, a guitar and a drum machine. A fun electronic/garage/surf rock sound. Every track of have listen to is great....
Thao and the get down stay down - This band also was a bit of unknown for me, but listening to a few tracks got me excited as well, a very indie pop sound, but unique all the same and mixes well with the diverse sounds. I could see Thao and Colleen becoming big soon with the cycle that music is going...
Lizzo - I know she is very well known in Cities (M-SP), she has recorded with POS and is produced by Cecil Otter (from Doomtree). I have tried to listen a bit, the sound is unique but I am definitely not overly excited here...
Vic Spencer - Rapper from Chicago, his new release is pretty great, I think he will also be one that looking back in a few years you may see blowing up... With Chicago's rap scene getting pretty big with the success of Chance the Rapper and some others recently, I think Vic may be the next one....
I hope for a few more surprises in the next announcement, last years second announcement was more locals with The Orwells(which were amazing).... The first announcement this year seemed very local heavy so I hope for some sneaky good national acts to come. Enjoy and provide any feedback

In general I think this year spend too much money on Nas, which impacted downward look at sure number of acts alone, I am sure I will have a good time, but believe the turnout this year will be down from past years.....

I agree. I think their attendance is going to be down a bit this year, and part of it has to do with the strength of the lineup for Hinterland.

My looking forward to is Decemberists, Wolf Parade, Dilly Dally, Craig Finn, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Black Lips, and Colleen Green. I am sure Nas will be good for NAStalgeic reasons(see what I did there).... Not as pumped as past years, I am sure it will be fun though, have a crowd of +9 that I can remember right now....
