5-4 with 3 games to go.....

Maybe because we're still digging ourselves out of a big talent deficiency vs. most of the conference and we have a top ten schedule for the second year in a row. Rhoads' first full recruiting class are redshirt freshmen. Give it time. Rhoads' great coaching has made some people forget where we really stand right now.

You mean 3 years removed from 5-19?

I am not happy with that. I am not okay with that. I'm sad to see that you are.
Rebuilding take time, you have to be patient. Look at the job Gary Pinkel has done. He had losing seasons 3 out of his first 4 years and look where that program is at now. I am happy with where we are now but next year I will have higher expectations. You have to realize that our all time win percentage in football is about 30% and Rhoads is right around 50% in his first 3 years. Also, getting wins in this conference this year has never been tougher than any other year. This conference is insanely good this year top to bottom.

It does not take 10 years to rebuild. We need things to be rolling this year and next.

Good post, everyone including myself need to remember this is a very long term process.

Don't understand where you are getting 10 years considering this is year 3
I predicted ISU to win 7 games this year. That is still possible, but when you go around and say 5 wins is fine for you....well then you need to find another sport to cheer for. Five wins is not good enough for any Cyclone fan. This is year three, but it sounds like you would give Rhoads 10 years to try to build a winning program. Not me. If he isn't bringing the team to bowls consistently by year 6 or 7, I want him gone.

I wouldn't say that finishing with 5 wins would thrill me, but at the same time, I would have a hard time saying that I'd be totally disappointed, either. The rebuilding really does take time, and I'm not exactly convinced that this is a 5-win team in terms of talent.

Sure, we all want to go to bowls. I think that this season has shown that we have improved talent, but still have plenty of talent issues to solve. I'm cheering for 1-3 more wins and a bowl, but I understand if we stop at 5. That still leaves CPR with an awfully impressive beginning to his ISU tenure, and points to much bigger things in the future.

This "let's call out other fans because I think my standards are higher" crap is absolutely stupid. That's the stuff that has "certain fans" jumping on and off the bandwagon several times a game. Relax.

5-19 says that CPR has worked a virtual miracle here so far.

Fine. He's in year three. Year 6 or 7 is a long way from here. Calling for 7 wins this year, on this schedule is/was absurd a not really anywhere near reality.

So long as there aren't any huge stinker steps back (2-10, 3-9) he is on a fine path right now laying a foundation to build on.

No doubt that CPR has done good things here so far, but sometime we have to break the 5 and 6 win seasons. I'd like to have 7 and 8 win teams year in and out. Yeah thats easier said than done, but it can happen and us Cyclone fans deserve it.

I don't think you have a very good understanding of how long it takes to build a program. We're right where we should be right now and we aren't as good as we will be in the future. Two years of Chizik plus a second coaching change in three years delayed progress. Rhoads has done everything he can and more. If this was year five you would have a point, but it's only year three. It takes more than three years at Iowa State. We're starting to see his recruits make an impact and we will be good when they're upperclassmen.

This season 5 wins is satisfactory. Next year it won't be. The number of games you decided Iowa State would win this year means absolutely nothing. The number of wins doesn't always determine how good a team is.

Our redshirt freshmen seem like they are playing just as well as the seniors.

I'm not calling for anyones head. It just shouldn't be too hard to get 6 wins and make a bowl. Thats all I want right now. Down the road, we are all going to be wanting 8 and 9 wins.
