49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Didn't one of the NFL "experts" say a few days ago that there were 7 elite QBs and Brock Purdy left in the playoffs?

Well it looks like after today there's only going to be 3 elite QBs and Brock Purdy left. Hmmm......

I hate how many butthurt little ******* there are in our fanbase.

I mean, the double standard is real. No doubt that Cyclone fans are oversensitive to criticism of one of our own. But the criticism of him is so wildly overwrought, it's crazy. Both sides dig in, can't give an inch, and you get this dumb circular debate that will probably never end.

What I really don't get is why he's become so polarizing when he's never been anything but gracious and humble. It's bizarre.

How did he play for you guys in the rain and wet games? I love Brock. But his 1 Kryptonite seems to be rainy wet games. The Cleveland game this year where we lost. Then this game we barely won. But there were some inaccurate passes out there. I don't know if he grips the ball really well in the rain. A wet ball. Glove on, glove off, wiping his hand right in the middle of a play. Just all kinds of stuff.

While there was some inaccuracy we did win the game. Despite early troubles his last game winning come from behind drive was the best. So he was able to put it out of his mind and get it done when it counted the most. I believe he was 6/7 on the last drive and the 1 big scramble which set up the CMC run up the middle for the game winning TD.

Keep in mind Jordan Love threw 2 picks and was not handling the ball well either most of the rainy game. So it's not all on Brock. He actually finished with a decent but not great stat line. Zero interceptions which is probably deceiving because some of them definitely could have been. But they were dropped. Almost interceptions don't count. Love had almost interceptions too in addition to the 2 actual ones he threw.

How did he play in the rain and wet games for you? Did he struggle more? I see an accurate thrower in dry, sunny games. But wet games worry me a little with Brock sometimes.

So the NFL expert people are talking about with "7 good QBs, and Brock Purdy" is Amy Trask, former CEO for the Raiders. Do I believe her opinion was either a) Bad or b) Badly worded? Yes. She did tweet this.

Jake Moody really sucks in the rain, that kid is gonna lose us one if given the chance.

I believe it was Purdys squad that almost lost to Drake in a blizzard, so yeah he’s not as good in cold weather.

That's interesting. I didn't know that. Moody hit the one that counted at the end though. A 52 yarder near the end of the game with a wet ball and in the rain. Overall he's been good. But Moody will occasionally miss. He's nowhere near as bad as the Packers kicker though. That guy is horrible.

Don't recall any games where he had the kind of rain he experienced last night, I do know one muddy, unmentionable game on here where he used his legs for a victory, which should never have happened. Which makes me think of a couple of points, in the Ravens game, he threw 4 ints, 3 of which normally fall to the ground(unlucky). Yesterday, he threw 2 balls that probably should be picks, but they weren't (lucky).

He also used his legs on the final drive to set up a 3rd and one at the 6, which put impossible pressure on the defense to stop McCaffrey; probably six plays from the six, so there's that contribution!

Go Brock!!

I really think some of it was the pocket was small and collapsing much of the time so he didn't have much time. I think you posted several times the OL could use some upgrades. Seemed like Love had much more time to find receivers.

Yes, the stat of the game is the 2-0 interception stat. I give Purdy lots of credit for zero interceptions with how small the pocket got and how rushed he was... to not throw a pick. Almost intercepted - understood - but still that's yada yada for any other QB in the league.

And the one miss in the final drive was unequivocally the fault of Kittle. That was a perfect pass.

He struggled a lot of the day. But was 6/7 on the last drive and had the one big scramble to set up CMC for the go ahead TD. He was clutch when it mattered most.

I'm surprised in some way that he struggles sometimes in sloppy weather. Because Iowa has very tough weather. So you you would assume playing and practicing at Iowa State would prepare him for this. But every player is worse in sloppy conditions. Ideally you would want a warm, sunny day and a clean ball. Always more beneficial for a QB and kicking game and return men too.

Yes the 49ers offensive line is not great at pass blocking. While the Packers line is better. He did it when it counted the most on the last drive. That's all that matters.

I don't remember a lot of games in bad weather during his career. It was never an issue or discussion. He can be mercurial. For the most part, as I'm sure you know, if he gets protection, he's very good.

I'm very biased, but I feel like everyone is being a little overly critical of his game performance. He was clearly not at the level we've seen, but SF only had 4 possessions in the 1st half. They scored a TD and missed a FG after horrible clock management by Shanahan. His stats at halftime were completely reasonable. He had the dropped pick on the first drive, but that was it.

Reading Twitter, you'd have thought he was 10/34 for 120 yards.

Cold but not wet. Iowa is currently in a drought that started years ago and is the worst since the 1950s. Not many wet football games during his time here.

His overall stats and his last game winning drive were not that bad. In a sloppy wet game. He played pretty well. Better than Love who had 2 picks. It's not that bad and he came through in the clutch. I would just expect a guy who played and practiced at Iowa State to be a little more used to very sloppy weather though. Everyone is worse in sloppy weather to be fair. Love had 2 picks and had some key mistakes and some almost interceptions of his own.

Wasn't Cleveland the game he drove the entire length of the field at the end only to have the kicker miss the game winner?
