Honest Question Here: I was reading KMAC_ATTACK's great post about why we may be better this year than last. The great analysis of the season last year got me thinking about a problem with the football team that seems to rear its ugly head at least once a year and that is there ability to compete for 4 solid quarters. And I'm not just talking about being winded in the 4th since sometimes we come out and look absolutley horrible in the first half but come out much stronger in the 2nd but often the results are that we are already too far behind and can't dig out of the hole. Sometimes it is a strong 1st half and we implode in the 2nd. Just wanted to get the thoughts of the collective cy-brain here how you all think the new staff will handle this or if it is even a problem

We will be much better rhoads will have them fighting to the end

We got outscored by 60 points in the 2nd quarter. Why the 2nd quarter, I don't know, but it made most games over (or seemingly over anyways) by half.

not only this but we need both the offense and defense going at the same time.. cant have the D holding a team to 7-14 points and out offense not being able to put up any.. vise versa cant have and offense put up 42 but a d alow 50

Good memory/observation, Minnyclone. This issue was really prevalent in the (back-to-back) UNLV and KU games, and CU to a lesser extent as well. We had some real Jeckel and Hyde performances last year. It's one of the things that made last season so frustrating.

If we could just put together 4 quarters....

I have been a Cyclone fan my entire life and not putting together 4 quarters of football has been a chronic problem. Hopefully CPR will be the cure for what is ailing us.

Thanks for the responses...I too am hopeful CPR can begin to turn this around. All we need to do is extend this comment: Hit them coming off the bus AND hit them walking to the locker room AND hit them coming on to the field AND hit them while dejectedly walking back to the bus

Just a thought on the 2nd quarter thing. I concur that our D was less then stellar last season, but I think some of the blame can be laid on the poor coaching staff. My theory is that in the 2nd quarter the opposing coaches have already made the necessary adjustments and the coaches last season could not react as quickly. By the end of the season our D was about as bad as you can get and made little or no apparent changes regardless of how badly they got torched. I'm not saying that we will be a top 25 D this season No way do I see that happening, but we should be better. Well its just a theory but I think coaching was a large factor in some of these Jeckyl and Hyde performances.
