I'm not sure there's a price where I would wait 23 minutes to fill up unless the apocalypse was coming. Honestly I don't even look at the price of gas usually, when I need it I just get it, it's not like if it's expensive I all of a sudden won't need gas.

I don't really understand the "my time is worth this much" stuff though, it's not like if I wasn't sitting in line getting gas I'd be out making money, I'd be sitting watching TV or playing golf or something.

Went to Sam's Club tonight and I made note of the gas line. From the time I went in to the time I got out was 23 minutes. The car at the end of the line was first in line when I got out, so they spent 38% of an hour in line for gas.

The gas was 39¢ cheaper at Sam's Club than the local gas station.

The average car is about 15 gallons, so let's assume they're close to empty and filling up 14 gallons worth of gas.

14 gallons x .39¢ = $5.46.

$5.46 ÷ .38 = $14.37/hour. By waiting in line, they're valuing their time at $14.37 per hour.

Is this something you do or would do? I fill up before my tank hits half empty so I don't mind paying a bit more per gallon.

Edit. If you take into account the 5% cash back rewards on gas bought at any station, the lower gas price per gallon at Sam's means they value their time at $13.63 per hour.

Wait till you find out how much people value their time as they wait for a Starbucks coffee that costs 30 times what a pot brewed at home costs.

I’ve never met a difference in gas prices that is worth the time thinking about it or driving around to find it.
The only time I ever consider it is if I'm driving home from chicago and I wait until I get out of the city.

I fill up in Ankeny because it’s cheaper than anywhere else in the metro (20-30 cents pretty regularly) but other than that, I don’t really pay attention. I do use premium, so I have to watch for that I guess because quite a few stations don’t carry it.

I make note to fill up in Bondurant when I drive through, as it's normally $0.10 or $0.15 per gallon cheaper (or more) than WDM. I also use Fleet Farm in Waukee when possible. However, it's not worth it to me to wait more than a couple minutes to start filling up.

I honestly don't remember the last time I even paid attention to gas prices. I feel that I'm at a place in my life where the price of gas isn't a big deal. I drive a lot and the $ isn't going to change that and I sure as hell ain't going to wait in a line to get a few cents cheaper gas.

I have money, but I don't have time.
I couldn't tell you the last time I looked at the price of gas. My commute has me filling up twice a week and I have no idea how much gas is. Not one clue and I pump premium because I have a turbo.

My Old Man will drive all over town to save 3 cents a gallon. The whopping 40 cents a tank is way worth it.

Yeah, **** I want to do, not waiting in line to "save" cents.

The guy buying gas probably saved more money than you did on your shopping trip to Sam's Club.

I’ll take note of gas prices as I’m driving to work or doing errands around town to determine where to get it, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get cheaper gas because the price difference to do so is negligible.

Fake news: didn't discount the time it takes to get gas at option2.

I don't understand this. Just the McCafe coffee I bought was $17 cheaper than Target. Price matching everything I bought saved about $62 over the Target prices. For 20 minutes of driving I'd say that's worth it. Using my analogy, that's $186/hour (minus gas costs to get there)
You cheap as ****, boy.

It's not about making money, it's about valuing your time. If a person asked for help at$50/hour would you do it vs $14/hour? If yes or no, why? We all trade our time for something, whether it's money or relaxation or whatever. If someone said would you like an extra half hour of golf for $5 would you do it?
When I get gas time isn’t really a factor. I’m not going to wait in line but I drive up to Ankeny on my way home to the West Side. The difference in time is pretty negligible and I am just going to watch more TV. When it’s consistently at minimum .20 cheaper it makes a difference. Not necessarily on one tank but over the course of a year it is a decent chunk of change.
