See, I was told that I was a Generation Y guy, since I came after Gen X. Imagine my surprise when I get lumped into the lame-ass Millenial group. Seriously, if you look at the "characteristics" of Gen X vs. Millenials, I am way more of a Gen X person. My youngest sibling, now, he's definitely a Millenial.

It’s based on people that grew up around the millennia, not born around it.
Kinda like how if you call yourself an “80s” kid, there’s a good chance you were born in the mid to late 70s, but most of your memories at a young age start in the 80s.

Also, this post is a perfect example of someone actually willing to share what they heard on a specific player. That's what message boards are for. I don't understand the need for such concealment in this thread.
Let me guess. You were born around 1981? We're the birth year nobody wants to claim, apparently, as I've seen us grouped with X, Y, and millennials. I definitely associate more with X.
My loose understanding is that a millenial was a person who grew up enough to know a life before 2000. But was not an "adult" until after the new millennium.
I call the new Generation the iGen.
Thank you. “Baby Boomer” is supposed to be based on the people who were born in the post war “boom” when soldiers came home (though I was born long after that), so I’d assumed there was a similar correlation.

1981-82 is considered the start of the millenials, as they were the HS graduating class of 2000. It's supposed to include people who grew up in the 80s and 90s, and came of age in the 2000s/early 2010s.
I'm an early 90s baby, so I'm considered a millenial.
There's some disagreement about the cutoff birth years, but mid 90s seems to be the consensus. Kids born in the early 2000s in HS right now aren't millenials; I certainly don't have much in common with them. But it's such an easy term to bash young people with, so here we are.
I've had this argument a few times. My position is that you aren't a millenial if you don't remember being worried about COBOL throwing the world into anarchy on 1/1/2000.
