.

Between Lewis, Long and Lard, at least 1 will not be here next year. Maybe open a spot or two for grad/juco. Law of averages would say 2 of the incoming players should help next year. With Shayok and Jacobson, we’ll be fine.

If this is the official "meltdown thread," I could come up with plenty of comments to "purge" that game. There's no way this team is Actually As Bad As We Witnessed.

But it's the worst I've seen Iowa State look in quite some time. I didn't see the Milwaukee game, but if that actually was uglier, it must have been mega-horrid.

When ISU was up 12-7, or thereabouts, and got several turnovers and UT was not connecting, we couldn't take advantage on offense. Then it continued, seemingly nobody could make a shot. Give Tennessee credit, they mucked it up long enough to gradually kill us with occasional 3-pointers, and the crowd never was allowed to get into the game.

Then the team got discouraged, or something. The players looked like they didn't want to be there. They looked like it was a miserable experience.

Brase reminds me of Ron Falenschek. Legs wrapped up like a mummy. Brase can't hit a shot even if ball was going through the net!! I think he is afraid that every time he tried to get off the floor that when he lands his knees will give out. He just never worked out for us.

There have been many games in which we were much better when Brase has been on the floor.

He really helped initially because we were so young but at this point he’s so limited from a mobility standpoint he’s not good.

We have too many guys that simply aren’t capable of playing well enough to win in this conference.

We need more good players.

Beverly and Hans try hard, they are just overwhelmed. They are front court petey and haluska from chewey’s time here. The good news is that their roles have been limited.

There will be more good players in the program next year.

Lewis is with Long in the doghouse apparently. But i agree he needs more minutes.
Not sure what you see in Lewis that deserved more minutes. Matador defense and cannot throw it in the ocean. The guy thAt needs more minutes is Tally. To win against good teams we pretty much need wigg, NWB and Jackson to all be good to great. Yesterday, nic was non existent (how much of that is injury I do not know), wigg was occasionally out of control and shot 3- for a gajillion, while Jackson was sub par. Therefore, a horrible loss. Our margin of error is almost non existent, and our options a not particularly attractive. bTW - Tennessee was bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic than us. Does not give you much wiggle room. Second BTW - if nic cannot play Wednesday against WV, god help us all. Possible Hilton record for turnovers.

Inexperienced team
Shooting ball badly
Rebounding badly
+ Passing badly
LOSS

That's all you really need to know about this one. You all are looking for something else that isn't there.

This team has the ability to play well. But they are also likely to lose to a D3 team on any given night. I can't decide if this is a potential tourney team or the Boone Toreadors ...

Hey - Boone has been lighting it up lately!

I agree. Serious lack of consistency, but we expected that this year.

I like Beverly and Hans, but I'm also glad they're just one year players and won't be back too. Losing Beverly and Hans and adding Jacobson and Shayok will be a big upgrade IMO.

But I still think we lack shooters. In the past 4-5 years or so, opposing coaches would always talk about how difficult we were to guard because we had 3-4 guys on the floor at all times who could drain 3's. This year, we usually only have 1 in Donovan Jackson out there you have to really worry about.... some nights Wigginton too.

I really was hoping Lewis was going to be huge for us in this aspect. He shot almost 60% from 3 in high school. I know college is a higher level, but if you can shoot you can shoot, and he can shoot. He hardly misses in practice from what I understand, so it's all just mental right now.

If someone does transfer out, it seems like we'll be adding Tyler Harris, which doesn't probably help us too much in the shooting area either. So obviously this is a big concern for me. I look at THT and Griffin more as slashers, not pure shooters. Halliburton could end up being a good shooter down the road for us, but like Lewis, I wouldn't count on it as a true freshman next year.

I'm just trying to figure out what happened to the team that stomped TT and took KU to the wire in the Phog. Prior to this week there was a lot to be optimistic about, even with the W-L record. Ugh.

Coaching?

You could also argue coaching put them in those situations as well. A more experienced team could have beaten KU and would have won those OT games.

Regardless, I'm not defending the games we've had recently (against Tenn and TCU specifically). Coaches, players (specifically upperclassmen), etc. all have to reevaluate themselves and figure this out. Nobody's completely blameless for what we saw yesterday.

Yes, because that makes such good sense. After thumping a Top 10 team last week and taking Kansas to the wire (more or less) in Lawrence, Steve Prohm suddenly turned into a bad coach overnight...

JFC.

Prior to yesterday, I was seeing definite progress from the beginning of the year.

Really hoping the coaches and players can figure things out and have a good February.

If you truly were see progress until yesterday, you seriously should calm down. My god.
