We didn't want Woodbury and contrary to what some people think we weren't going to offer Jok after we got Thomas even if we could have. The only reason Iowa offered Jok was because they missed on EC Matthews and Hogue. Jok was Drake bound until Fran struck out

ISU wouldn't have taken a top 50 recruit? If he showed some interest in wanting to be a Cyclone, then ISU would have recruited him harder.

ISU didn't want Woodbury. He came to campus once and it was made clear it wasn't a fit for either side with what Fred was trying to build and what Woodbury could do. He made the right choice going to Iowa

ISU would have taken Gatens, Gesell, Woodbury, Uthoff, Jok, Wieskamp and the younger McCaffery if the situation presented itself.

ISU went after Uthoff, Jok and Wieskamp, so I'll give you those.

I'm really glad you picked these players to point out. See anything similar between them all?
They are some of Fran's best recruits yet he had to do almost nothing to recruit them. They either grew up fans or they fell into Fran's lap.

If Jok comes to ISU like he wanted, I'm not sure Fran survives last season.

Maybe we wanted him, maybe we didn’t.

But he never could have come to Iowa State because of the lefty Moore issue.

Hearing that fawcast with Paul Shirley and hearing that Collison and Hinrich were set to come until Floyd left still bothers me. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I wonder if when Fred decided to go the transfer route and bring us back more quickly might have turned off a few of the Iowa kids knowing that the roster would always be in flux.

They said on the radio that fran has only been to 2 NCAAs, 3 if you count play in. Is that true? 7 years and 2.5 successful years. And here Iowa State fans are disappointed in a rebuilding year after 6 straight NCAA and 3 coaches.

Im not so sure that is true. Not that those players werent good enough, but someone like woodbury simply would not have fit isu's system. woodbury couldn't run the floor constantly like a lard or mckay. I could be mistaken, but i though i read somewhere that i ISU cooled on jok after he had an injury in hs (if true, isu made a mistake not going after him i hindsight).

but in regards to the original post, i think is a combination of the state of iowa not producing a ton of top tier talent, combined with the right fit and sometimes just losing the recruiting battles.

I find that really hard to believe. Woodbury was a top recruit and ISU would have taken him if he wanted to be a Cyclone.
You saw first-hand how Woodbury played and developed over time.

Where would he have fit in a Hoiberg offense? The answer is nowhere. He wouldn't have fit.

Old Roy gets the Iowa Players that are worth a damn. I wouldn't bother recruiting them either

That is completely false and I'm not trolling. Coaches don't make offers off recruiting rankings. Look at Waggoner for example

Lefty Moore. ISU would have been right in the mix and gone hard after Jok.
