23/24 poll

This does not paint a good picture of the Big12. Based on what we saw in the dance, B12 may no be longer recognized as the top conference.
I think emergence of the NIL and transfer portal is going to hurt the Big 12. Form around 2014 to 2022 I would say it was the deepest conference in college basketball and was ranked either the best or second best conference. The game has changed now and having collectively the best coaches is not as important because of player mobility. For example, if KSU had Pack this year, they might have won it all, but Miami had the 800K to pull him away.

Why? The Big 12 had 2 Elite 8 teams. Both were upset in close games. Other than the Big East (which isn't as competitive top to bottom), who would jump ahead of the Big 12? I know, I know, the Big 10 of course!!

Someone posted something showing that the Big 12 had the least players in the portal of all conferences. That runs directly contrary to your assertion. Guys aren't transferring out of the best conference in the country. They are transferring in, or in many cases, transferring within.

The top 4 scorers are all gone. Not sure where he came up with that.
I did quick read of his top 25 roundup yesterday and saw that detail but didn't stop to think if it's accurate ... since rank is based primarily on that stat it seems weird to be that far off. Maybe he accidentally looked at the previous season's stats. (Even that I'm not sure we had four of top seven returning, unless you counted Hunter)

Not sure if that's the case, but honestly, I don't care. I'm ready for the Big 12 to be slightly easier again. The biggest problem is the depth of good teams. Hopefully adding 4 teams, and no more round robin schedule, will make it a little easier.

To me though, it looks like the mid teir teams are going to be tough again. Tech retooling, KSt has a good coach, WVU will be solid.

KU, Houston, Texas, Baylor toward the top.
Tech, Iowa St hopefully, Kst, WVU, tcu, OkSt? BYU? in the middle
Ucf, cinncy? OK toward the bottom

To be fair...a lot of conferences would get a boost if they foisted Nebraska and Colorado onto other conferences.

That was a big part of why the Big 12 was suddenly stacked for a decade. Get rid of two worst programs and one of them is the worst in NCAA basketball history. Not only made Big 12 better but really made Big Ten suck more at the same time.

TCU somehow improved almost immediately and WVU has been at least solid pretty much every season.
