.

If you don't like the memes or videos being shared, or all of the stuff from the pages you like popping up in your feed, that's a you problem. Block the people that share all of that stuff and unlike the pages you like. You literally have control to see whatever you want to see on your Facebook feed. I never understand when people complain about that.

Social media hipsters? I think I've seen it all now

This may help with some ads. I've noticed a difference since this morning. http://www.komando.com/tips/370759/stop-facebook-from-listening-to-everything-you-say

Also, here's how I found to keep the newsfeed at "most recent": Under shortcuts, news feed, choose "most recent" When that shows, highlight the URL in the location bar and drag it to the area just below the bar. Then, always click on that as your bookmark/shortcut for FB.

on my android it doesn't have microphone as a setting you can turn off. it's just listed as a permission

Facebook is excellent for trolling people. I get endless amounts of enjoyment from it.

Oh God I love trolling people during Presidential election season. My enjoyment never ceases especially with how polarized everything is now.

What was the site before MySpace? I had one of those along with about the 3 other people I knew that had the Internet when I was in 6th grade. I had 2 friends on ICQ when I was in 2nd grade. My parents were definitely PC hipsters

Zanga? Janga? Xanga? Hell if I know what that word was anymore.

Haha ICQ and MSN messenger where huge when I was in middle school through high school. That was kids' technology addiction back then vs cell phones these days.

Facebook is my line in the sand for social media. I just unfollow the people who post too much garbage. I don't want any part of Instagram or Snapchat or Twitter unless they're still around when my kids hit their teens, at which point I'll be forced to create an account to monitor whatever they're on. Now get off my lawn.
I'm glad our kids were on their own before the internet and social media really hit their stride. I can't imagine trying to deal with that on top of dealing with teenagers. I don't envy my kids the choices they have to make. :)

Old people over 40 ruined Facebook.

No, people that have a high need for attention and don't understand basic social boundaries/privacy ruined FB, not that it was ever really that good of a thing to begin with.

I used be OK with staying up to date with distant friends, and goofing around with others, but had to get rid of it as I was sick of getting 'tagged' every time I went anywhere public*.

*Yes I know, you can remove tags from your page; but you can't do anything about friends of friends seeing things you're tagged in.

Vanity has either reached its peak or bottomed out, depending on how you see it.

You can untag yourself.

I'll admit that I learn about, and are reminded of events I'm interested in and around Des Moines that I know I'd miss out on if I stopped using FB. A lot of kid friendly events also which is helpful for parents...,many times because a FB friend with kids have clicked "interested" or "attending" which then feeds into my newsfeed. I really like that and I'm not sure there is an equivalent means to get this type of information.
