Average utility bill (Electric, Gas, Sewer, Water) for my 1300 sqft story and a half is between $140-290 throughout the year. Least in Spring/Fall, most in the Winter. In the middle ground during the summer. Could be better as I know the house is underinsulated in spots.

I'm forced air heating and cooling.

our house is 2,900 and has double-thick walls. we just have a weird heating system.

If you pay no gas bill for the size house you have that is not that far above normal. Maybe a little high depending on what footage is about ground.

The air heat pump isn't that bad, Geo Thermal would be best;

Highest this winter was $65. But that's because I keep it on the cold side.

2500sqft $114 budget bill.

Use about 500 kW in the winter and 900 kW in the summer for electric
Use about 110 therms in the winter and 20 in the summer for gas

This puts us in the top 5% in the neighborhood.

What are your utility bills in summer and winter?

Our new house has an electric heat pump (who decided that was a good idea?!) and our utility bills are about $250 when it's cold out. Haven't lived there in the summer yet so I don't know what it'll be in the summer.

That seems high to me.

I have a newer house. New build when we moved in and have the electric heat pump. Our avg plan is about 240/months.

Big old two-story house and heating is natural gas but the bill includes our electric from the same company. So total bill might be $225 in the coldest month, usually more like $150 in the winter.

Midamerican's web site has a lot of useful stats. I factor in 2 things for our low energy costs.

#1 I'm fat so I can handle the cold. 61 when we're gone, 64 at night, and 67 when home awake.

# I notice while taking care of a baby, we are constantly doing laundry.

Gas and electric averages about 150 per month for us. 3300 sq. Ft. Daylight ranch.

Thermostat is 64/62 in the winter and 70/65 in the summer (that's day night). So, much higher bills in the summer for us. I tell people that complain that it's too cold in my house, esp in the winter, you can always put more clothes/blankets on. Can't always do the opposite.

Which electric utility company do you get service from? If it's Consumers, that's why you are paying more than you thought you would. Their electricity rate is much higher than Mid-American's.

Heat pumps are good for when the ambient temperature is not that far from your indoor setting. They are essentially useless at the extremes. Dial the thermostat down a little when it is really cold or add some space heaters.

I still think the most efficient systems are in-floor heat systems that circulate fluid through the floor. They can have a large lag time but you can't beat the efficiency. I am also not a fan of Geothermal.
