***2024 Minnesota Vikings***

I may not be following you but off the top of my head, Cine was a 2022 1st, Booth was a 2022 2nd, Ingram was a 2022 2nd, and Addison was a 2023 1st. Not sure where you’re coming up with Hockenson.
Kwesi traded his 2023 2nd round pick for Hockenson. That's the return they got for that pick, and so far, it's a good one, arguably the most impactful move he's made.

I guess I’m just not sure why you’re counting Hockenson as a draft pick. He’s made other trades involving draft picks that have had an impact also.

You said he needs to improve his hit rate on first and second round picks. If we're looking at all of the players acquired with those picks, Hock is in that group.

That’s a convenient example you’re using. Also, Hockenson wasn’t a draft pick.

It's not my example. You're the one who said: "He needs to improve his hit rate on first and second round picks. You can’t have complete misses like he has and expect to compete for a divisional championship." I'm just listing the players acquired with those picks.

2022 1st: Cine
2022 2nd: Booth
2022 2nd: Ingram
2023 1st: Addison
2023 2nd: Traded for Hock.

Based on the players acquired, that's a pretty decent return on those picks. Cine is the big whiff, to be sure.

Yeah but you’re not including him trading down. You’re cherry picking.

How am I cherry picking? I'm literally listing the players that were acquired with those picks. In Hock's case, it was via a trade. You can't discount that. The Vikings had a second round pick this year, but they traded it for a player. Why wouldn't the GM get credit for that? I guarantee that if Hock turned out to be a bust, people would be holding it against him.

Regarding other trades, I didn't list any of the additional picks outside of the first and second, because you specifically referred to those specific rounds in your post. But Booth was selected with a pick acquired via trade, and I included him.

Again, I was referring only to draft picks. You probably don’t want to address the missed opportunities that occurred by trading down. Also, here’s what happens when you trade for a player whose contract is going to expire and is willing to fake an injury until he gets what he wants.

Hockenson was a great value pick in my fantasy drafts!

"With his performance on Sunday, Hockenson has now hauled in a total of 71 passes in Minnesota's 10 games this season. His 71 catches are easily the most ever by a Vikings tight end during the team's first 10 matchups of a season, with Joe Senser (1981) and Jermaine Wiggins (2005) both tied for the second-most with 49 catches in the first 10 games of their respective seasons.

Hockenson's 71 catches are not only the most in Vikings history by a tight end in the team's first 10 games of a season, but they are the third-most in NFL history by a tight end after the first 10 matchups in a season.

Zach Ertz (77 in 2018) and Jason Witten (73 in 2012) are the only two tight ends in league history to have more receptions than Hockenson in the first 10 games of a season."

And what has the return been?

Among Tight Ends this season:
Receptions: #1 (#2 among all players)
Receiving yards: #1
TD catches: #3

Kwesi traded his 2nd round pick for that level of production. I'm sorry, but it's not wrong to factor that into his overall grade as a GM, I'm not sure if it's because he was a Hawk, or what, but some people seem to want to deny that Hockenson has been something other than very, very good, and absolutely worth what they gave up. He might have faked an injury in the pre-season, but there's no denying that he's put it all out there when the games were for real.

As far as missed opportunities go, that's incredibly subjective. Every time a team chooses someone in the draft, they're passing on every other player that gets selected after them. It's very difficult to grade a player that a team had an opportunity to select but didn't, as there are all kinds of variables that might change things.

Agree with your last paragraph but completely whiffing on first round picks is not sustainable. Cine was widely panned when they drafted him. He’s a complete bust. There isn’t a single team that would give up anything for him. You can talk about the injury but he’s been a healthy scratch multiple times already.

Are you saying Jordan Addison was a bust?

Nobody's arguing that Cine has been anything other than a disappointment. But, him being widely panned at the time they picked him...

CBS rated the pick a B+
Fox rated it a B+
Yahoo Sports called in an A
The Athletic called it an A

There might not have been universal approval, but calling the pick widely panned doesn't seem to pass the smell test.

My God man, he missed on his first ever draft pick and then hit a home run with Addison. Not to mention because he was hired late in the year he used Spielman’s scouts for the first draft

This is why it’s a good idea to look at entire drafts over 2 or 3 year periods. And while I sure don’t think Hock should be paid that much, he really filled a huge need for the Vikes. Def worth that draft capital.

Strange to say this, but I have a feeling the Denver defense might be difficult for the Vikings next week. Allen's stupid throws aside, Denver's defense was much better last night. They are good against the run, which we know the Vikings already suck at, so Dobbs ability to limit INTs is really going to be key.

The Kwesi haters have the same energy as the Cousins haters.

There are some early misses that create a negative opinion, and then they just marry themselves to that opinion forever. Kwesi's first draft sucked. His second draft is looking much better. He has been excellent bringing in available and established guys off-season and mid-season.

He's not the best GM in the NFL, but it seems like he's at least evened up with Spielman and has a lot of potential to exceed him.
