Evans was good before going out. He and Shelley were pleasant surprises. It wasn’t like their veteran stars were flops, it’s just that none of them really played great, and the defense didn’t have anyone come out of nowhere to play great. It was like everyone played a notch below their contract. Hopefully that’s mostly coaching and can be addressed.About as good as the rest of the defense.
Frankly, there was only one guy I was impressed with on defense the last few games: Duke Shelley.
Starting at the 1:00 mark:
”There are certain moments that end a guys tenure with a team”
“It’s over for Kirk in Minnesota”
Cousins is always going to put up stats and continue to fail when it matters. He’s going to keep fleecing nfl teams for millions of dollars as he continues to fail in the big games and continues racking up playoff losses. It's over because he played well but had one poor decision on a 4th and 8? You literally just posted in the Purdy thread that he had the 3rd highest QB rating this weekend

So to be clear you would do a job for significantly less than the market says you could do it for? He's not supposed to maximize his earnings while he's capable of doing so?when is the last time any one of us made the kind of money that a "team friendly" deal would offer him. Guy would still make like 24 mil a year on a team friendly deal.
It’s not cousins fault it’s the Vikings fault, they massively overpaid. I still don’t understand what they were thinking paying him that much.So to be clear you would do a job for significantly less than the market says you could do it for? He's not supposed to maximize his earnings while he's capable of doing so?
His employer is the Minnesota Vikings. They pay guys a ton of money to build a roster around every contract they sign that can compete. Kirk has no reason to be altruistic.
Plenty of NFL players have taken contracts for less than they’re worth in order to win a ring.So to be clear you would do a job for significantly less than the market says you could do it for? He's not supposed to maximize his earnings while he's capable of doing so?

What they were thinking was they could pay a lot to keep Case Keenan or roll with Teddy, if he ever returned. Keenan had a fluke year but both are backups. It was not a good contract, but the alternative really is tanking. There are literally only these scenarios at QB to win:It’s not cousins fault it’s the Vikings fault, they massively overpaid. I still don’t understand what they were thinking paying him that much.
Disagree. Cousins was not the problem. He was money in the 4th quarter this season.Cousins is always going to put up stats and continue to fail when it matters. He’s going to keep fleecing nfl teams for millions of dollars as he continues to fail in the big games and continues racking up playoff losses.
And what could the Vikings spend money on to improve if they didn’t have to pay such a massive contract to cousins?Disagree. Cousins was not the problem. He was money in the 4th quarter this season.
The problem with the Vikings is that God awful defense. They couldn't stop a Tom Manning offense if they tried.
It’s really not that massive in the grand scheme of QB contracts. Dalvin Cook has a much worse contract for the team than Kirk. Harrison Smith, Kendricks, Thielen, and other older players also have worse contracts than what Kirk hasAnd what could the Vikings spend money on to improve if they didn’t have to pay such a massive contract to cousins?
Is Cousins even in the top 5 QBs by yearly salary? With his salary as guaranteed as it is, you lose out hard by letting him go. It quite literally saves nothing. And what could the Vikings spend money on to improve if they didn’t have to pay such a massive contract to cousins?
I don't disagree with your point, but it's a large part of how the greatest QB of all time came to be the greatest QB of all time, so you'd think more QB's would maybe take a page from that playbook. Tom prioritized winning over money during the prime of his career and I'd say it worked out pretty well over him. To each his own thoughThe "take a team friendly deal and get a supporting cast" people always crack me up. Virtually none of us would do that yet we expect others to do so?
