***2024 Minnesota Vikings***

How long is Kene expected to be out?
Kene sure has a reason to ask "why me?" His entire career at ISU was impacted by the achilles injury. He spent most of his 1st year in the league learning the finer points of being a RB that he missed out on by not getting reps in college. Last year was a new system during which he also missed most of training camp. He supposedly was very impressive in spring workouts only to now be impacted by an unspecified lower leg injury.

The fact that they kept Kene on the 53 man roster just to place him on IR tells me that KOC absolutely believes he will continue to contribute in an important fashion. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that seems like they have a lot of faith in him to do that.

Yeah, they must be higher on him than people think. The running back room has plenty of opportunity for someone to show out. Mattison is the definite #1 entering the season, but he could easily be replaced if someone steps up.

I'm just not that excited about Mattison. Anytime he was "the guy" with Cook out his ypc was abysmal. He's better in short bursts or in a tandem with another RB.

Hock had the vikings by the balls. Can't let him not play and walk, especially with the draft capital given up to acquire him.

Boy that feels like a lot of cap to spend on a TE when JJ and Darrisaw are coming down the pipeline for deals AND you have A TON of 2024 cap hit for an unsigned Kirk...
Depends on how it's structured. They'll try to stutter the cap hits so that the big ones hit at different times. But cap management is definitely a chess match.
I honestly thought, from the talk that's been going around, that Hock was looking for $20mil plus per season. As it stands, $17.1 is just a shade over Darren Waller for the highest. A guy like Kittle is going to go significantly higher, I would think

Think they are going to hand the keys of the Ferrari that is this offense to a rookie or Jaren Hall. Find a cheap QB with all the weapons in the world and hope for the best.

Just keep adding void years. Plus, the Salary Cap is skyrocketing. From 2022 to 2023 it went up 8%. Looking like a 13% increase in 2024 and 10% in 2025.

4 years from now, his salary will probably be a bargain.

If that is the plan, we should "try" to win less than 8 games this year, so that we are in a place to trade up or take QB 2-3 and not QB 4-6

I'll bet that Hock's ear just got miraculously better right after the ink dried on that contract.

I'm curious, how well has tanking worked for teams in the past? I think it worked great for the Bengals with Burrow, but I'm not sure. You also run the risk of pissing off your fan base, not to mention your stars themselves. In order to tank, they should have let plenty of folks go this year and they did not. If they had, how does that look when you are trying to sign Justin Jefferson?

With the Hockenson signing, I started thinking the Vikes are trending towards re-signing Cousins. I mean, who wants to stick around to break in a rookie QB—especially with this coming draft class?

Then there’s this:

Probably depends on how things go this year. The better they do, the more likely it is that Cousins comes back. If they miss the playoffs, they'll probably say goodbye. But winning the North again, and making playoffs would make keeping the band together pretty enticing for all parties involved.
