2024-2025 Recruiting Thread

same here - must be something in the water

but in all seriousness- you have many legit AA contenders who will never sniff the starting line up

let alone a chance to compete in the post season.

lets look at 125

WeightNameClassRecordActionVideos
125(Penn State), (Penn State)SO0 - 0
125#26 Howard, Robert StSO0 - 0
125#29 McHenry, KurtJR0 - 0
125#62 Steen, GarySO0 - 0
125#90 Shindledecker, KarlRSFR0 - 0
125#133 Wentzel, BrendanFR0 - 0
125#271 Vespa, Marco

Howard - starter - 4x NJ place winner - 2x champ, 2x finalist

McHenry 2x cadet world chap, transferred from Michigan-
if 118 was still in play - he is NCAA champ

Steen - 2 x PA state champ - flipped commitment from Pitt

Shindledecker -3x PA state place winner, (2nd, 3rd &7th)

Wentzel - 4 x PA all state including 2 titles and 2nd and a 3rd

vespa 3 x NY all state
None of those 125s are that good. I don’t think there is an AA in the bunch. Maybe Howard with an outside shot, but his NCAA results have been mediocre.

maybe 125 wasnt best exmple for AA

but how do you go there knowing after all the years you have put in

you stand almost zero chance of ever seeing the line up

plenty of schools would have spot for them

125 was a bad example and I tend to agree with you but some kids don’t care. A few different perspectives. They may not want to be a starter and this is them easing out of the sport and not having to put in all the extra work. Some might have a certain academic program they want and that’s all they care about - their career moving forward. Some might want to network for business and make great connections. We have plenty of depth here on the isu roster right now and our back up team would be pretty solid. A lot of these guys are enjoying their experience from what I can tell and are ready for any opportunity they get.

That's the biggest thing right there. Some are just content with being on the team, getting that ring, making connections in college and having a very successful career/life after graduating.

Some also are thinking wait my time and shine when the opportunity presents itself. Look at what was taking place at Iowa during their dynasty run...loads of talent that didn't see the mat until they were seniors and low and behold won it all.

Aka Coach Dresser. That mentality isn’t for everyone but Iowa has had plenty of great kids go there and ride the bench waiting for an opportunity to shine - Riggins is a guy right now who might not see the line up but was a big time recruit.

I also think being in the Pennsylvania hotbed of wrestling helps. Many of those kids grow up just wanting to go to Penn State and wrestling is a cherry on top. Similiar to Iowa in the 80s and 90s, I mean heck Jesse Whitmer i think waited till his senior year to start and won a NCAA title.

Leo Deluca: 9th overall recruit in class of 2025 (2nd at 120 this year)
Cooper Hilton: 24th overall recruit in class of 2025 (3rd at 132 this year)
Jacob Levy: 15th at Heavyweight
Drew Gorman: 28th overall recruit in class of 2025 (14th at 138 this year)
If I missed this, my bad. Looks like Cooper Hilton is going to Michigan. That’s a bummer

Leo Deluca committed to Ohio State
Bummer. Striking out on all the top guys coming out of highschool. I’ve learned to not overreact to this kind of bad news. Coaches have done a good job filling spots with transfers, and I’ll expect them to continue to do that. It looks like they’ll need to.

Agreed, albeit a more expensive route I’d imagine. We could really use a big time lightweight commitment in the next class or two to challenge Perryman

I guess I don't know how much he practices with the team, but two-time U23 world champ Reineri Andreu has got to be pushing our lightweights.

I don't disagree that we could use a stud recruit soon who can step in after Perryman though.
