Elko wont make it 3 years in that cesspool. Hope his buyout is huge.

Isn’t that what you hope for when taking that job? The sooner you can tank to get that buyout and move away from College Station the better. There’s no way anyone is taking that job with the thought that they’ll turn it into a title contender. It’s all about that guaranteed cash money.

His coaching record is average though. 35-40 while at Texas Tech and 28-37-1 with the Cardinals.
True. I just can't think of too many coaches that go directly from NFL HC to a middle of the road college gig in the prime of their careers.

For the good of the conference, I hope it happens. He'd probably have a higher ceiling at Houston than he did at Tech.

Why do you say the last part?

I'm thinking that Houston is both closer to larger swaths of Texas talent, and an easier place to get kids to go to than Lubbock.

It would take time to get the program rolling, but I think the potential is there. Anyone think I'm wrong?

I do but that’s more of a G5 bias than anything else. Realistically there probably isn’t much difference between tech and Houston but those schools are only going to get the leftovers and sometimes not even those with the way recruiting is national now

Saw this, but couldn't find any corroborating sources.

If true, that would be a MASSIVE win for Houston.

I had assumed he'd be out of their reach.
You think its a massive win? What did he actually do at tech. Seems like they were always around that 5-7 to 7-5 area under him

How many ex NFL HCs in the prime of their careers with Houston ties are within the University's reach?

I imagine he learned a thing or two in the league and is not the same coach he was at Tech.

I also imagine Houston is a helluva better place to recruit to than Lubbock.
