I assume you’re talking defense? I think BVP could defend some 5. Mostly 4s. I don’t see 3s, but could be wrong. There are a lot of low impact 5s he could defend.
On offense I don’t think it matters too much, but I’d guess he’s mostly a stretch 4. If defended by a big, he could function as another wing I think. But I thought the same about Enaruna, and we never really explored that. Which certainly could have several reasons other than offensive tactics.
I really like BVPs game. A better shooting, more skilled Jacobson in my view, who was a good athlete. Maybe a tad more fleet footed and 1” shorter

I thought Gabe was solid to good at the end of the year. He had a brutal stretch at the end of the non-conference season and the first half of Big 12 play. He was solid against LSU and good against Wisconsin. Struggled against Miami, but so did everyone else.
Vander Plas gives me a Filip Rebraca vibe. Only my uninformed opinion, and likely completely unfair, but they're about the same size, and their numbers were pretty similar, against similar competition.
I'm not certain how Rebraca would have performed in TJ's system this year.
Having said that, I don't think TJ would go this far recruiting a guy like that, if he didn't think he'd fit.

Not bad, especially considering that Brockington really struggled the last few games and that put more pressure on him to make up the difference.
He conveniently left out the fact that in those ten games he had 31 turnovers and 26 rebounds. He struggles in areas other than shooting.
They’re roughly the same size and probably similar athletes. But their games don’t look similar based on YouTube cuts and stats imo.
They’re not similar 4s in my view.
-Vander Plas took more 3s last year (198) than Rebraca will in his career (currently 84). BVP 3PA rate is .55 compared to .119 at UND for Rebraca (dropped to .017 at Iowa). Despite this, BVP had a higher FT rate last year than Rebraca did at UND in 2020-21.
-Flip was a conventional post in a similar, but weaker conference than the MAC that used his size athleticism and high volume (29% usage) to make an impact. 21/24 FGA per 100 possessions were 2P FGA. Assist rate of 9%.
-BVP is a stretch 4 that had moderate volume (20%). 8/17 FGA per 100 possessions were 2P FGA. His assist rate was 18.7% and 17.1% last two years. True stretch 4 with maybe some a bit of play making. His OReb % very low given he’s playing away from the paint.
-Bart Torvik has BVP as wing F. Flip as PF/C. Despite that, BVP has more dunks (14 vs 5) and equitable close 2s. Flip was taking a lot of long twos at UND, whereas BVP either 3Ps or getting to the basket.
-Ohio was a good team the last two years. Comparable or better than many P6s two years ago, and still a few this year. UND in 2020-21 was far worse than 2-22 Iowa St by metrics
Flip did start on a Big 10 team in which volume was sparse after Murray and others. From what I see BVP is more talented and has more transferable skills Imo, so it’s not surprising he has many good programs after him

Stop. Good grief. He literally carried us to more wins this year than we won in the entire season last year. He struggles in some areas and excels in others. Gabe led the team in charges drawn. That is not only a turnover for the other team, but also a foul on a player. Huge in terms of free throw bonus because of team fouls. Plus puts an opposing player in potential foul trouble. Huge statistic you ignore.
Gonna agree here. Like I'm not someone who says we need to be only positive about all things ISU or anything but assigning motives to players where there's no evidence of such and also is blatantly false based on TJ's coaching is way past the line of acceptability. If Gabe wasn't doing what he was supposed to he would have been on the bench.

How about we quit bagging on our own players and discuss new transfers per the thread topic
Udeze and Dennis from Wichita St both had new list and we were not on either, we could probably cross them off
So dumb to bag on Gabe. He helped get us to the Sweet 16. Yet, every player that is transfering out we wish them well? Ummm that makes no sense. I hope Gabe comes back and locks down the best player on the other team like he did this year.

The success of IB, playing next to the Big 12's best PG and a top 10 PG in the country should mean a waiting list of combo guards wanting to play here.
The bagging on players is happening in this thread. Needs to stop. Gabe has struggles in some things and is inconsistent. Some things he does well consistently. So quit talking about Gabe’s shortcomings and focus on the transfers and recruits coming in.
