2022 Football post mortem/looking forward

Dekkers had over 3000 this year. 2nd in passing yards and 3rd in TDs in the conference. He was only passed by Duggan for total passing yards in this last game.
That's what happens when you throw 50 times a game due to having no rush threat whatsoever.

(I haven't actually looked at their yards per attempt/completion to back this up, so I could get dunked on).

Also, didn't Dekkers only throw 18 or 19 TDs? 3rd in conference with ~1.5 TDs/game seems...low.

I’ve wondered the same, when he continually makes the incorrect read on options and doesn’t see defenders on picks. When Kempt is explaining things, his expression reminds me of teaching a dog math. Then I read this:

Awards and Honors
Second Team Academic All-Big 12 (2021)
Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team (2020)
Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (F21, S22)

So now we’re back to coaching? Becht makes a successful audible, something not witnessed from Dekkers - not allowed? Why?
School smarts doesn't necessarily translate to sports smart. I'd say it often does, but it's not a guarantee. Especially at QB, the most football IQ intense position there is.

CMC voluntarily to Cincinnati is the best possible outcome at this point. ISU gets out of this albatross contract and can hopefully find someone—anyone—who doesn’t make the same mistakes for 7+ years.
I'm going to laugh my balls off if we switch coaches and get worse.

Curious if there is more going on behind the scenes than we know.

I'd be surprised if there weren't fights at practice between O and D, or defensive players telling the offensive staff to get their stuff together.

Pretty obvious defense wasn't gonna risk injury today for nothing to gain.

I've never seen such a disparity between sides of the ball on any team.

That stuff happens all the time and doesn't shed light on anything. I watched Enis Haywood break Justin Eilers jaw with a punch. Mike Banks and a JUCO LB (his name escapes me now, Tucker?) would practically fight every practice.

Yeah, football smart is snap decision making, not deep analysis. Knowing coverages and tendencies helps, but the decision to throw or not happens too fast to process more than "he looks open." However you develop QBs though, our staff isn't good at it given none of our QBs have taken a big leap forward.

I don't think anyone REALLY wants Campbell to leave. They want him to make the changes necessary to turn things around. Some don't believe he will do it though.
I agree, but if he doesn’t want to be here I’m ok with that. Just make it quick

Doesn’t solve the NIL problem.

I don’t think NIL is the problem, also NIL is very overstated in its impact on this board. Just look at A&M or the fact that Michigan doesn’t promote NIL (to the anger of alums) and is in the playoff back to back years.
I think people want a reason why guys leave other than just wanting to go/be somewhere else.

I do think it is a factor in some ways, but I also would guess outside of things like Texas paying their whole o-line, it's also really top-heavy. The ultra elite QBs and QB recruits will continue to make bank though, but that is not really something ISU is usually gonna get anyway.

(Kohl is rated pretty damn close to those guys though and balled out in competitions this summer against the best of the best. Not penciling him in as QB1 next year, but he's really talented.)

I dunno. CMC got on the big board at JTS and begged fans to contribute to ISU's NIL collective.

It isn't an issue at Michigan, perhaps. ISU is not Michigan either. We've already seen starters leave for greener pastures last year.

Problem is there is nothing but internet rumor saying that they were getting NIL. I know the one dude left for ole miss which is understandable but I didn’t know of any others that left for a “better” program
