In hindsight, getting blown out by TCU in the final game was likely a blessing.
With a lot of close games, if we'd had another close loss, it may have been easier to say "well, we're so close!"

I said it about 10 minutes into that game, "maybe it will be bad enough to force CMC's hand on changes."
Granted, I'd hope (and given the sorta sweeping changes believe) that it was more the final nail than a deciding factor if that makes sense.

My gut feeling heading into the TCU game was, whatever change might come, it already was determined, and game outcome wasn't going to alter it.
I could be wrong, of course ... maybe an upset + bowl bid (at 5-7) would tip the scales, but that seems like a shortsighted way to approach it.
Manning etal almost had to know it was coming, if not having already been officially informed even as early as the Tech game.
Which has caused me to wonder if the otherwise inexplicable goal line calls vs Tech was a big middle finger to Campbell and the team.
Probably just routine dumbness, but makes for a nice a conspiracy theory, suitable for CF.
Seems like intentionally sabotaging your friend who made you wealthy and largely covered for your ineptitude is a bad way to market yourself to potential future employers.
Is it more difficult now to recruit players that can actually improve over 4/5/6 years ? Or is that all on the coaches ?

On ESPN this morning they said Golesh is a strong candidate for the HC at Cincinnati. So, not coming back to ISU, likely ever.
That was never going to happen anyways. He isn't leaving Tennessee for the same position at ISU
Anyone who even thought Golesh would leave a successful SEC school for ISU is nutty.
That blowout was on the defense mostly.
The record in one scores games since the Fiesta bowl was really what it boiled down to. And that isn't saying Manning was the only reason for it. But part of depositing the big checks in that business is taking the fall when the time for that comes too.

Conspiracy theory: The defense did poorly on purpose because they were sick of covering for the offense.
That isn't conspiratorial. It was basically a meaningless game on Iowa States end. It's human nature.
The TCU game was on the offense. Two pick sixes, punt snap over punters head in our end, fumble in our end. I wonder what games people watch sometimes.
It was truly one of the biggest implosions I've seen, and even during it I was far from convinced TCU is/was anything special. Just a complete calamity for ISU's offense more than anything else. I actually thought the defense was mostly fine outside of the first 10 minutes and very end of the game. Just nothing the defense really could have done.
