2022/23 Coaching Staff Changes

I see plenty of comments wishing for coaching changes. I don't dispute the need. Who would you recommend?

The one that got away appears to be Alex Golesh who may get a HC gig this year.
If he doesn't go with Golesh to a HC spot, what about his OL Coach Glen Elarbee to be our OC?

Another option: Darrell Dickey - he has Texas and Midwest recruiting experience and my guess is he failed more because of Jimbo wanting to run the offense. If CMC is willing to give Dickey the reigns to show what he learned with Norvell it might work out.

OC, I want a guy with experience, poach at least a G5 guy. Oline, this gets tough, I’m kinda thinking about pulling whoever is considered the best Oline coach in FCS. There are teams at that level that beat decent FBS teams and it’s usually line play as a big factor. S&C, no idea, not sure what the pool is for that stuff.

For S&C, it's mostly important that we criticize the approach of the current guy and get excited about the methods of the new guy, even though we really aren't hearing anything or know much about the process there. That's the key to me.

S&C? Wasn't that a huge coup to hire that guy three years ago? S&C has mostly escaped scrutiny but the OL performance should invite some.
So, he is good with defensive players but not offensive players?

Would Jason Candle leave a MAC head coaching gig to be a P5 OC? I’d imagine he’s probably thinking P5 HC next, but that would allow Matt to keep the coaching tree continuity and chemistry he is so keen on.

Take it you have issues with TJ being our coach also.

I’m going to say no since Candle was slated to be our OC when CMC was first hired. There were pictures of him on-site in Ames shortly after CMC took the job. A few days later Candle was offered the Toledo HC job and Manning was moved up.

He supposedly had an offer and considered going to Miami as the OC last year.

I'm not sure we want Candle. Toledo is far and away the best job in the MAC. Best facilities, best geographic proximity to talent, most $ for support staff + recruiting staff, most $ for assistant coaches. They are legitimately always the most talented team in the MAC. They have consistently underperformed under Candle.
