2021 NBA playoffs thread

They mentioned it late that Milwaukee only played 1 guy major minutes off the bench tonight. Gonna be a lot of gassed guys in this game 7.

It feels like the NBA season has been just continuing for 2 years so I expect fatigue to be an issue for the next two rounds.

Is the next season supposed to start in late October like it used to?

Ought to just have a shortened season to get back on track.

So for the casual fan, did the NBA start earlier this season? How did Covid affect things as far as not having the ususal off-season? Mind filling me in. Other than that they seem to be playing later into June and likely into July this year.

My guess, just thinking about it, is that last year they kept trying to play, make up games, past June, 2020, so that they never really had a good off-season when the started this year. That about right?

Last year season ended around mid October and preason for this current season started in mid December so for all the playoff teams it was a quick turnaround. However for teams not invited to the bubble they had a huge amount of time off. Not that many of those teams took advantage.

Need to just punt on this years olympics. Send guys like Zach Lavine and D’Angelo Russell to play.
I suspect the Olympic committee or whoever decides on the USA teams, will likely offer most of the spots for the BB team to NBA players not involved in the current playoffs. Probably quite a few guys would still want to play, be able to say they played in the Olympics. Could it be they may have to or want to ask some current collegians to be on the team this year also?

Come to think of it, whoever they pick, better start pretty soon. Time to start practicing, gel as a team.

These guys have played less games the last two years than any of their career, with a 3 month offseason, no travel playing in the bubble and an extended break during last season. No reason for fatigue, it's been the smallest workload these guys will get. The real test will be next season, they'll have a shorter offseason and will play their first full 82 game season in 2 years, full preseason, plus the olympics this summer. The 2022 playoffs will be the real grind.

The offseason was different for everyone, some teams had almost 9 months off, the teams in the bubble had between 5 months and two and a half months off. Normal offseason is about 3 months before preseason stuff starts. The season started two months later than usual and the season was shortened by 11 games. Only a couple of teams had a shortened offseason.

I'd like to think fatigue would become a thing after that kind of gap too since everything's just so out of rhythm/routine. You can train and play pick up ball, whatever but game shape is just different.

I like the 72 game format with the start/stop dates they've used this season. I hope they keep it, although I would be ok with an even shorter regular season, say 60 or 62 games.
