2021 NBA playoffs thread

They've got a great roster to go "small", especially with Leonard. Morris and Batum as bigs are both great shooters and have the height/strength to hold their own defensively and rebounding wise. George and Leonard are obviously big strong guards as well.

Legler said this last night after the game. When LA went small Utah should of taken out gobert and gone with 5 perimeter players as well.

I don't agree, Utah doesn't have the caliber of perimeter players to do that. Especially with Conley out most of the series and playing only a little bit last night. Niang can't defend on the perimeter very well either.

It wasn't Gobert getting burned that was the issue, in my opinion. It was everyone else not being able to keep their man from getting to the basket. If Gobert was taken out, LA gets about 40 layups in that game. Instead, Gobert rotated down to take away the lay-up, leaving a wide open 3 point shooter. I don't see how playing another guard helps with that, they still aren't going to recover in time to take away the 3 and aren't going to provide rebounding or rim protection.

There was not a single Utah player capable of containing their man off the dribble last night. Usually O'neal is good defensively, but even he was getting torched in the 2nd half. Mitchell and Clarkson are capable, but usually lack the desire to defend well and Mitchell's injury clearly hampered his lateral quickness too. Same deal with Conley. He's usually a good defender but wasn't in shape for it last night with his hamstring injury. Obviously Ingles, Bogdanovic and Niang are going to struggle guarding anyone quick.

That entire 2nd half was LA going one-on-one with and getting into the paint at will. It didn't matter who the defender was.

Utah needed Conley to be healthy. He's the only one capable of setting Gobert up down low for easy baskets to take advantage of his size.

The way LA was shooting 3's I'd take them getting layups over 3 point shots.

I like the 72 game format with the start/stop dates they've used this season. I hope they keep it, although I would be ok with an even shorter regular season, say 60 or 62 games.
I agree with you, but like 'that's gonna happen'! Money might get in the way. It usually does.

Same with MLB. Who really needs/wants a 162 game season?

And NFL, 17 games now. Well they did get rid of one pre-season game, ha.

For those that saw Trae live (OU vs. ISU), what was he like? Pretty much like now I'm thinking. He has kind of been a freak (good) since before high school, right?

He's even more cerebral now and controls the game more with better players around him. He was great his college year but he was made for the NBA.
