2021 Cyclone Volleyball

Agree, didn’t matter for my daughter either.
I think the problem is that Iowa State doesn't have better coaching or teammates than Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or anyone in the area that we are going up against in recruiting battles. What does ISU have to offer to get better players? Because the talent gap is glaring against better teams.

UK plays in the old Memorial Coliseum which is more intimate than Hilton. The plan for BU is to repurpose the Ferrell Center for VB only once their new venue for BB is completed.

The issue with ISU is that they are surrounded by more successful P6 programs with smaller or VB only venues and it negatively impacts their recruiting IMO for a significant % of recruits.
I think the issue with ISU volleyball is that CJL started raising a family.

The point was the Memorial Coliseum is a large basketball arena - much bigger than the smaller VB venues you have referenced.

I think Dawn Sullivan's departure had a bigger impact as well as the rise and sustainment of surrounding programs such as KU, KSU, NU, Creighton, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Marquette, Illinois and Mizzou (NCAA last season, way down this season). At least 6 of those programs have had impact Iowans on their rosters in recent seasons.

Sounds like Hatch was en fuego which begs the question where has this form been? Glad for them lets keep this thing rolling.

But coaches lose assistants all the time - and there are tons of good/great replacements who would do a great job.
When you say Dawn's exit has hurt the program, what you're really saying is that CJL did not hire a replacement coach who is as good or better...

You are seeing the same thing with Bobby P at UNI. Losing Mahi was a bigger deal than I thought it would be. Clearly has had an impact. IDK who good our assistants are?

Hatch has been injured in recent weeks and is now evidently healthy. The big revelation has been Mitchell and her lefty swing. Assuming Holthaus returns this week, CJL now has more and better options at OH when Holthaus is on the back row or out of the rotation.

Big doubleheader this weekend with KSU at Hilton. Win both and a NCAA bid probably gets wrapped up before heading to Waco for Baylor (who split with Texas over the weekend; UT's first match loss of the season).

Updated RPI is out. Here are where B12 teams outside of UT and BU are at:

33 West Virginia
38 Kansas St.
43 Kansas
45 Iowa St.
47 Texas Tech

ISU is definitely on the bubble now but sweeping KSU this weekend should lock up an at large bid. West Virginia is currently 6-6 with TT at home and at TCU so they are best positioned to end up 3rd behind BU and UT. ISU is 7-5 with the KSU doubleheader in Ames and then two matches at Waco.

Bobbi hit the perfect storm of running off Mahi and NE Iowa talent being a bit down at the same time. She'll be 'fine' long term but its hard to see her getting back to the point where she's a tournament team every single year unless she gets the better of her second set of twins to stay home this time (spoiler: she's not staying home).

Footwork and foot speed will be an issue but no question about her arm.
I could see her being a right side hitter because of the foot speed thing. I'd be curious what her passing looks like.

She certainly has a heavy arm swing. The first thing I noticed was that she doesn't bring her left guide arm up on the swing.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone not frame up while hitting from the pins. Could be she has always been the tallest girl in the gym played lots of middle and has never been taught before.

I don't think we ever played Vital volleyball team out of Eden Prairie MN even though we went to the Northern Lights tourney every year from 14-18's.

One interesting nugget from CJL's analysis of Morgan Brandt in the Signing press release: "She, along with Jaden (Newsome) and Addi (Heidemann) will be an incredible group to lead our offense."

That quote appears to suggest that Newsome will be returning for another season.

That is the second time they have talked about Newsome and "next season" so that is GREAT news. I thought I misheard it about a month ago.

1-1 after two. No big runs by either team, just back and forth. We took the first 25-21, lost the second 25-23.

2-1 after three. We won 25-20.
We win the 4th set 25-17, the match 3-1.

Took the much needed 3-1 W over a solid KSU team. Some interesting line-ups tonight with Holthaus back and playing OH. Mitchell struggled a bit and Mantz came in in the later sets.
Saw this on Volleytalk in regards to the probability of making the tournament. Crucial game on Saturday for both squads.
