(laughing) Knowing Bert, he probably still thinks he can get guys out. I mean, what does it take to throw that 74 MPH lollipop curve ball?
Loved hearing the story from Sutclife about early in his career somebody told him to come out to field and "listen to this". It was Blyleven warming up and Rick was not watching, but listening to pop of his curveball.
the one common thing in the past 15 year getting beat by NY was I was never there. I think I'm headed to NY to watch this game. This time'll be different.
So jealous! Had a blast in NYC in April when I was there. Only had 3 days so didn't take the time to leave Manhattan to get to the Bronx for a game.

I met Blyleven in 1970, his rookie season. A bunch of kids were waiting outside the locker room for autographs. Bert had been the winning pitcher that day, he came out carrying 2 cases of Heineken beer. We mobbed him, and he asked us to come over by his car. (A cream colored Thunderbird.) He had a remote on his trunk, which he popped, and we all oohed and aahed. Then he signed all our stuff. A great guy.
Long shot but two Yankee wins and two BoSox losses this weekend would mean a playoff game on Monday with the loser facing the Twins. Possible back-to-back one game playoffs. Yanks moved up Sabbathia into slot today and not Garcia....going to play it out.
