2016 NBA Draft

Last night John Sears (ch. 13) reported that Randy Peterson (Register) reported that Uthoff's agent said Uthoff received and declined "multiple offers" for draft & stash status. Per Sears/Peterson/Uthoff's agent. Jared "has no desire to play in the D-leagues or overseas", and will "choose his own team to play for..."

Seriously - you can't make this stuff up.

Oh wait...maybe you can?

Scott Dochterman from the Gazette reported a similar story this morning. Funny how the hawkeye homers they have writing for them put a story about Uthoff failing to get drafted.. I mean, turning down several draft offers (yeah right) at the top of the page and hid the story about Niang and Nader actually getting drafted down at the bottom of the page.

This was my favorite paragraph from that article:

In an email to The Gazette on Friday, Pensack said he and Uthoff “turned down several draft and stash picks” and the “NBA remains the primary focus.” Uthoff told The Gazette in a text Friday that he’s “still trying to make a decision” on which NBA team to choose.

He'd probably better "choose" soon - he may find no one is interested any more.

Carvers - Perry Ellis got picked up by the Dallas Mavericks.

One person I don't see on this list is Jameel McKay. Did he drop out of the draft process?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ts-2016-latest-details-on-top-rookie-signings

Through our Texas Tech game Jameel was somewhere around 19 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. I thought for sure he'd at least get some second round buzz, combine invite or have a chance to get into a camp undrafted the way he was tearing it up and with his athleticism. If he'd have got into the combine I'd almost guarantee he'd have been at the top of some of the measurables. Then it all completely collapsed.

I'll always wonder exactly what happened with him last year. He had that great game @KU but otherwise just disappeared for the second half of the season compared to the first. Specifically the Virginia games. Games like that are why he didn't get interest.

Another headline from them:

[h=1]Georges Niang 'lucky' to be in NBA discussion[/h]
Now, a slight change completely changes the slant...

[h=1]Georges Niang 'feels lucky' to be in NBA discussion[/h]

If this is true, it's a case of Iowa's delusional fans mentally abusing one of their players with their delusions and costing him a professional basketball career.

He and Abdel both were invited to and played in the Portsmouth Invitational, so he was good enough for that if not for the combine. I thought he had put his name in for the draft. Maybe not.

A marginal NBA player at best is probably looking for a bad team like the Kings to maximize his shot at a roster. With that said I think Uthoff will be a fine player in Milan or Athens next year.

Ummmm...Okay? Not the premiere team he was gunning for, perhaps?

This basically means that nobody was really interested in him as a free agent even. And I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't any interest either. The guy doesn't seem to really even like playing basketball or care much about it either way. I wouldn't want him either.

The ISU game was a prime example this past season. The first half showed just how talented he is and the potential he has, but the 2nd half showed how he just disappears when it matters most, becomes disinterested, gets taken out of the game by a decent defender, and doesn't even show the desire to win the game.

That is a HUGE negative for him.

Came across this quote as I was looking for info on Wayne Seldon:

Said Bill Self (via the Topeka Capital Journal): "A lot of times a guy who gets picked 50th may end up with a franchise that already has 13 guaranteed contracts and they have no shot to make the team. These guys as free agents may end up in situations where the chances are actually increased."

I guess everyone likes to rationalize with that line.

He is on record saying he won't play overseas or in the D league.

I must have missed that. Where did he say that? Lots of guys go to Europe and making good money playing the sport they love. The D-League is a different story, but European basketball is really a lot better than nearly every other non-NBA outcome for most of these guys.

We type that sentence here every single year.....

Hawkeye fans at HN are doubling and tripling down on the rumor that Uthoff was contacted to be drafted in the 2nd round but declined because he did not want to be a draft & stash guy and instead wanted to try for a roster via FA.

Wow.
Really?For real? Kick my side.

We meaning you & me or we meaning CF posters?

Yes, I realize it (at least the second half of it). I found that comment from Self interesting because of the number he picked as much as the rationalizing going on. I also read another article on Seldon that mentioned that he was probably better off because people he knows he's better than were drafted and he wasn't. Note that this particular comment was made by the author, and was on Rock Chalk Jay Hawk. Neither Seldon nor Self was quoted, but the author then went on to specifically cite Niang & Nader as two of those drafted above Seldon.

It does appear that, contrary to all bluebird fanbase protestations, Cyclone basketball players ARE on their radar. :)

I'm sorry, I've been from one end of the internet to the other today, reading articles then following links to more articles, etc. I spent a half hour trying to find the specific article but no joy. I noticed it because the quote involved a certain amount of hubris from someone who wasn't a lottery pick.

Although the posters in here that know me generally know that I don't post lies, please feel free to ignore it as anecdotal since I can't back it up. :)
