2016 NBA Draft

Hawkeye fans at HN are doubling and tripling down on the rumor that Uthoff was contacted to be drafted in the 2nd round but declined because he did not want to be a draft & stash guy and instead wanted to try for a roster via FA.

Wow.
Lol that they are starting rumors just to protect their precious HaLkeyes. Maybe if the NBA draft was at halftime of the ISU-Iowa game, Uthoff would have been drafted.

Trying to interpret Jameel's twitter. Looks like someone shot who was close to him? Anyone seen news on this?

Sounds like his cousin got shot, likely right after their draft watch party? I think?

Yea, that's what it looks like. Googled and saw shooting death around 11:45 of David McKay. The shirt in Jameel's picture looks like it says King David. How terrible for him. Must be so hard on him. Thoughts and prayers.

They claim the "rumor" was actually a statement by Uthoff's agent.

Well that's good enough for me then. If there is one profession known for honesty it's sports agents.

Guy can't seem to catch a break. Appears he was pretty upset about loss of BDJ, and now this. Poor guy.

I just can't believe how over inflated the Hawk fans had become about Uthoff over the past few months.

I always thought Uthoff would be a very late 2nd round pick or not drafted at all. He has the worst attribute possible.... no passion, no drive, not very competitive, and doesn't want the ball down the stretch when the game is on the line.

He definitely has some skills, especially for a 6'10" player, but he just seems to not care most of the time and is not driven at all.

That's the biggest difference between him and Niang IMO. Niang always wanted the ball when the game was on the line. Niang was very passionate playing the game. And Niang was as competitive as they come. That will get you MUCH further with NBA scouts.

There is a place in professional basketball for beta males. That place is called Europe.

This is exactly right.

Uthoff would have done well to adapt some of Georges attitude. Watching Uthoff you don't exactly get the feeling that he even likes basketball. I don't know if he never had it or if Mad Fran sucked it out of him, but he sure never appeared to be a person that liked what he did. Uthoff didn't show up for that Senior All Star game in Marshalltown. Georges did. Uthoff (from what I know) didn't host a camp for kids before the draft. Georges did.

Add in the fact that he did that strange interview about wanting to be a role player---accepting being a role player is one thing. But I would want a guy who wants to be a star. Wants to work to be a star. Also that strange article about his focus and starring at the airplane seat ahead of him for hours. That's just odd.

And today when his agent comes out and says he could have been drafted but didn't want to. That's weird too. Anyone knows that there are probably times when it is better to be a free agent than a 2nd round pick. But it seems odd to come out and talk about it. And then say that he won't be signing with anyone for a while. The desirable guys that didn't get drafted already signed with teams.

I shouldn't care so much, but I find him fascinating. And I'm grateful that our All-American was Georges.

Last night John Sears (ch. 13) reported that Randy Peterson (Register) reported that Uthoff's agent said Uthoff received and declined "multiple offers" for draft & stash status. Per Sears/Peterson/Uthoff's agent. Jarrod "has no desire to play in the D-leagues or overseas", and will "choose his own team to play for..."

Seriously - you can't make this stuff up.

Oh wait...maybe you can?

Surprised we haven't heard this one yet. "I heard the Celtics wanted to draft and stash uthoff and when he declined they picked Nader out of spite."
