NFL: 2014 NFL Draft

Not a fan of either team - but Viking and Brown fans should be pleased with their draft. Some good value picks by both teams.

Not surprised at that; general consensus seems to be that Indy reached for Mewhort and could have gotten him later. But I agree with the idea that if you're totally sold on a player, you take him and don't worry about the pick. Mewhort's going to be a valuable swing player that can put out a lot of fires. If they got a jack of all trades who can play, tackle, guard or center in a pinch then they got a good value pick.

Better to be a division champion and a draft loser than a draft winner and division bottom feeder.

Wouldn't call the Rams bottom feeders. If they would have been a playoff team if they played in any other division. Playing the seahawks and 49ers twice is pretty darn tough.

This is very interesting to look at:

It’s not perfect, especially in a deep draft, but by assigning players in their rankings an amount of points equal to the trade charts’ equivalent pick value, we can find out what players are considered to be worth. Using the NFL Trade Value Chart (put together by Jimmy Johnson way back when), we can compare the amount of draft capital a team entered the draft with to the “valueâ€￾ of players selected. This is perhaps the most appropriate way to gauge the number of “stealsâ€￾ and “reachesâ€￾ a team makes and quantifying.

Has the Vikings as the #1 draft, by a decently wide margin, when it comes to how the prospects they took were valued before the draft.

Obviously it doesn't mean much if anything but it is encouraging to see as a Vikings fan.
