2014 Bracketology

I kinda want to put like 10 bucks on iowa state to win the national championship.

I'd be more inclined to put $10 on Michigan State banking in a half court 3 to beat us in the title game.

Nut shots galore

As conservatively as possible, I see us going 2-1 in the Diamond Head, 7-2 at Hilton in Big 12 play, and 5-4 on the road.

Hard to see a record worse than 23-7 at the end of the day. Even that is probably right around a 6 seed.

Looks within range -- I'd love to go unbeaten at Hilton, partly to get a long streak going and 8-0 would also guarantee at least a split with BU, KU and OSU). I would trade at least one road loss to do that, as long as bad losses are minimized.

It's early, but the Big 10 can suck it.

Related fun note: Although it's early and obviously schedule strength is a factor, Big 12 is the only conference with every team 3 games above .500. Only one other conference, Big East, has every team above .500; Big Ten and Pac-10 have all at least .500. All other conferences have at least one team with a losing record.

Also probably helps to have only 10 teams in the league. Take that, expansion!!

Why? They (UW is) the #4 team in the country right now.

The post did refer to "Wisconsin will be a 1 seed," and I'll be surprised if that happens, too. But your point is valid if we're talking about if tournament began right now — that team would have to be in major consideration for a 1 seed.

Not only is Wisconsin ranked fourth, it has best record in country, is 3rd RPI and 8th SOS. It's one of only four teams that are single digits in both, and the next-best SOS in the RPI top 10 is 17 (Colorado).

Hi everyone,

Congrats on a great run so far. Below is my updated bracketology. I update at least once a week. Will go through another update tomorrow. Yes, Wisconsin right now is a #1 seed. I did not post Ohio St. as a #1 seed because two Big 10 teams can't take a #1 seed. So Kansas moves up to the #1. Thanks for visiting the site throughout the past months. Good luck with your team's run:

Without even clicking the link, have KU as a #1 seed when they already have 3 losses is hilarious.
No thanks

Why?

Be more than happy to explain. Wisconsin has more quality wins which = higher rpi. Wins vs ranked Florida and ROAD wins versus St. Louis and UVA will beat Ohio State's road win versus Marquette. Wisconsin beat Marquette as well. If Ohio State beats Michigan St. Jan 7, I'll put them as a #1 seed.

I'm not ready yet to put Iowa State as a 1 seed.

2 line, however, is reasonable. Six unbeaten teams and ISU schedule compares favorable with most of them; only a few 1- or 2-loss teams have enough SOS impact so far to be higher (such as Michigan State, Villanova, Florida and Baylor).

Kansas has 4 losses and still might warrant fringe-2 seed: schedule is arguable best in the country, top-end and lack of sub-200 opponents. Still: 4 losses.

I agree with you that Kansas probably has the best schedule in the country. Next 3 games will be incredible for them if they win all three.
