2013/2014 Minutes

Fred has so many options with the players we have on the roster. He can created so many matchup issues for the opposing teams with so many players between 6'4" and 6'8". Most are long and athletic and can play multiple positions in our offense. It will be fun to see what Fred does with this group. It seems like there will be a lot of competition for playing time. Hopefully the players respond well to that and they all improve at a high rate.

The depth is crazy. I think it could look something like this, but who really knows?
1. Morris
2. Thomas
3. Kane
4. Ejim
5. Niang

6. Dorsey-Walker
7. Hogue
8. Amardi
9. Palo
10. Bluford

DNP - Gibson
DNP - Long
DNP - Edozie

Now obviously one of these players isn't going to be here. My speculation is as good as yours. We honestly don't know, and I'm so excited.

this season will be such a roller coaster but with the addition of Kane, I think we're looking at an ISU team who could have the most depth in school history.

Close. The 99-00 Elite Eight team was uber-deep too. Marcus Fizer, Jamaal Tinsley, Stevie Johnson, Martin Rancik, Kantrail Horton, Michael Nurse, Paul Shirley, Richard Evans and Brandon Hawkins.

I still stand by this depth chart. Take it to the bank!
PG: Kane / Monte / Bubu / Naz
SG: SDW / Thomas / Bluford
SF: Hogue / Ejim / SDW
PF: Ejim / Niang
PF: Niang / Amardi/ Percy / Edozie

My guess would probably be about this too... Although Morris, Kane, SDW wouldn't surprise me at 1-3. But I could see it playing out that way then going to three guard when Ejim or Niang come out with Amardi/Gibson at the 5.

PG-Kane/Bubu/Morris/Long
SG-Thomas/Kane/SDW/Bluford
SF-Hogue/SDW/Ejim
PF-Ejim/Niang
PF-Niang/Gibson/Edozie

Palo will receive more minutes then Long. I honestly think Long doesn't play much next year, while MM and Palo battle it out for number 2 at point guard. In CW's interview with Matt Abdelmassih, Matt did not mention Long as a backup to Kane.
"It really gives us stability and that’s not to discredit when Bubu Palo and Monte Morris can bring to the table."

On top of that, with what Thomas, SDW, and the Jucos bring to the table I don't see Long sliding over to the 2 spot.

We should be careful counting our chickens. So much is unknown right now. Amazingly, this is the third year in a row Fred will come in with, essentially, a completely new team. He has worked his magic three times (and I count that "transition year" with DG and JVB as magic--the wins were not there, but they were so close so often, and the overall level of play, effort, and enthusiasm were light years ahead of where McD left it). I trust him to do it, I just don't know what the roster will shake out to be.

The funny thing is we are finally starting to transition into some personnel continuity (besides Bubu and Melvin, at least). We'll have Nader and Niang in the front court for the next few years, and then a ton of young guards (at least four being high-level national recruits) to go with them. It will be real fun circa 2015 when Niang, Nader, SDW, Morris, Thomas, and Cluster are all seniors/juniors. Not that there won't be more behind them, and not that we're not going to have a lot of fun in the meantime.

And fun is what this is really all about, no?

There could be something there, or Fred moved him to SG

I think it is safe to say that Long is a shooting guard with good size and the potential to be a good defender. He played point last season out of necessity.

I don't see how anyone can have Edozie getting minutes before Amardi. Have you seen their videos? I don't see Edozie or Bluford getting many minutes.

I hopewe see 4 guard.
morris
Thomas
Kane
SDW
Ejim/Niang

All we have are the numbers they put up in JuCo. And a few tapes. My gut says Amardi, because he had some nice numbers in some limited minutes.

I agree. I think Edozie is more of a project than Amardi. I'm hoping Amardi can come in and be exactly what we hoped Booker was supposed to be this year. Rim protector and has a respectable jump shot.

I think how good Amardi ends up being will be very important to how well we do this year. If he can start/play major minutes at the 5 it would help take care of one of the biggest question marks for us, namely what to do with SF minutes. If Amardi ends up solid, I guess Ejim splits time between the 3 and 4 pretty evenly, while Hogue and one of the bigger SG filling out SF minutes. PG and SG are going to be fine.

Here is what I can say without talking totally out of my ***.

Ejim - 30 min
Niang - 30 min
Kane - 30 min
