I think wrestling is going to a home and away schedule so we will have 6 conference meets now instead of 4 like previous years.

Also the conference tournament is no longer an auto-qualifying tournament. I don't think that will have a big impact though. My understanding is that just means the conference isn't guaranteed at least one wrestler in each weight will get to go to nationals. Also previously individuals earned a "slot" for the conference based on their results for the year. For example, if 3 people earned slots at 174 pounds, the top 3 finishers in the conference tournament would go, even if they were not one of the people who earned it based on their season results. Now the people who earn the slot get it no matter how they do at the conference tournament. It basically takes out the ability to get hot in the tournament and make nationals even with a mediocre season.

Somebody can jump in and correct me if I'm wrong about all this.

1st part is right, champion is not an auto qualifer. But that last part is wrong. Still the same as in the past. If 3 get automatic bids at 174, the top 3 go no matter who they are.

Simonson is out part or all season because of knee surgery and Gadsen is out until the Iowa dual because of shoulder.
At 133 - Schlosser is trying to get in because of grades, maybe Cash or another true frosh.

Thanks for correcting me. It will be interesting to see how often we don't get an automatic qualifier at a weight.

Maybe the kid from Hawaii can step in immediately at 133??? I know he's raw but his videos show a lot of talent and quickness, although he gets out of position quite often which he won't be able to do at this level.
