2008 recruits better than expected?

Nice job keeping it contemporary with the Naismith reference...absolutely nothing has changed in the college basketball landscape since he patrolled the sidelines.

You get the point he is trying to make though. In which I agree with, if you want more contemporary look to 5-10 yrs ago when we were owning Kansas. I happened then and the excuse of "they're kansas" isn't a good one. So we should have not played UNC in the tourney a couple years ago because they are UNC. Of course we didn't win but I would be damned if we didn't show up and gave 'em a run for their money.

We could play with (and beat) some of the elite programs in the nation and there is no reason for us not to strive to do that again.

I'm not saying we should not be able to beat the big fish, just saying it is much harder for a program in the stage ours is to compete on a consistent basis.

When we owned KU, we had two of the most special players we ever had in our program. KU has players like that come through much more regularly than we do.

I hope we get there, but getting there takes time. We can't just say "Why can't we compete now?" There are good reasons we can't.

I agree that the mindset of never being able to compete with the elite programs is unacceptable, but it also takes time to build a program to the level to compete with elite programs. The UNC example is terrible because UNC destroyed us in that game.

ESPN - Iowa State vs. North Carolina - Recap - March 20, 2005

I can't wait to get back to beating Kansas again, but it's going to take time to reach that level of success.

ughhh...the last line in that recap by Stinson. "most people still don't recognize Iowa State basketball, but we'll be back".

PLEASE get us back sooner rather than later.
