2008 recruits better than expected?

So your hoping Ike will be a top 15 player in ISU history. Sullivan was on the all century team (I wouldn't have him in) and for him to be better than Sully means he is the next Freddy.

I like all of our recruits except Mann. To me he is another CJ. Hamilton is a project. He will more than likely redshirt next year

I agree with you on Sully being on the all-century team, I loved the kid and he gave 100% all the time, he maxed all his athletic ability, but he's not top 15 in our history.

I assume you're being sarcastic in saying the next level from Sully is Fred?

I like Eke alot, don't know too much on Mann, just hope he comes in like Homan...naturally tough with a mean streak!!!

I also think Hamilton will be a project, but I think he might have to play next season.

I honestly can not wait for next season, it's going to be oh so interesting.

I think that both post player's are wildcards at this point. They could come in and contribute immediately, or they could both take year's to develop. IMHO, I think Hamilton will rs and Mann will play a lot more than expected, as the yin to Craig's yang. (corny, I know)

> Well of course Mac said that. He is going to defend his recruits. <

Sure. But for me, subtext is important. I listen carefully (or, I believe that I do) as much to the WAY a coach says what he says as to WHAT he says.

Illustration: Last November, when Chizik was asked a question about Randy Kellman, he said nothing unexpected, but the way he said it, the way his voice changed, made me think that something was up with Randy's status with the team.

> I have talked to people who have seen Mann play. Their comments on him was that he plays great defense but can't shoot well. Also doesn't dribble or pass very well either <

Bottomline: Who are you gonna trust? Everyone has motives, some hidden, for what they say, including posters here on the board. Who am I going to listen to most closely while filtering what he says? For me, McDermott tops my list, board members here come in a distant second.

At the best I would hope our recruits turn out like the following former players:

Buckley = Blalock
Eikmeier = Sullivan
Mann = Greg Brunner
Hamilton = Vroman

It seems that each of these players have similar physical attributes and projected skill sets. It would be a great class if they all panned out this way.

Re: 2009 recruits better than expected?

I think the 08 class is medocre at best. Mann is a utility player as is Hamilton. Mann is undersized at his position hopefully he can add energy. Hamilton is a project. I would say Buckley was a steal and Wes is kind of unknown. He is good but is he going to be able convert to Major D1 big 12 basketball from the small town schools b-ball we will see. I hope so.

I hope we get an impact player for 09 then add Barnes, Dykstra, and one more player for 2010 that is good. Right now things are looking horrible.

It's hard to recruit when you are last in the conference. There are other second year coaches that are not last in the conference.

Mediocre at best? That is kind of harsh. Most likely mediocre is a fairer assessment.

I'd say at best, Eikmeier becomes Jake Sullivan 2.0, Mann becomes like Greg Brunner, Buckley is a four year starting PG and Hamilton develops like a Loren Meyer. I'd say that is way better than mediocre.

The odds of them all panning out like that are pretty small, though.

This isn't in reply to anyone specifically, but a general response concerning a pet peeve of mine. Anytime a recruit has a similarity to a previous recruit there's an assumption that the results are the same. Just because a player is from a small town like Eikmeier doesn't mean he can't compete at the D1 level. Just because Mann is similar in size to CJ doesn't mean he won't be a better player. Not every JC PG is Tinsley. Not every four or five star forward recruit will be Fizer. And so on. I haven't seen any of the recruits play, but from the accounts posted on here I'm excited about the incoming freshman and the future of ISU basketball. But let's not jump to conclusions based solely on the athlete's home town, size, number of stars on Rivals, etc.

Thank you, ISUFan22, I'm still getting a feel for the board and do not know much about its functions yet. The points system, well, I'll have to explore what that's all about ;-)

I don't know if this is true, but an NU fan I know was watching Lucca shoot around in Lincoln, and said he made 94/100 shots! He also said at one point he made 64 in a row! That is absolutely crazy shooting, and if Lucca can do half of that it would be awesome.

Lucca doesn't go on road trips and he doesn't even shoot around when we are at home. Unless this was the earlier shootaround which he does do I believe. I can imagine he went to NU somehow.

I would guess your friend wouldn't make that up.

This ISU team has NO D1 guards. The fact that we've won 4 games in a conference with very good guards isn't bad in hindsight.
