2/4/11 TX/Southeast Winter Storm

So its snowing again here. And they still haven't plowed from the first storm. And its supposed to snow monday and tuesday as well. Great. Just wonderful.

Work was out until noon. I slept in and woke up to a text that it's closed all day today. Since then, I've been watching the Houston TranStar live feed of people trying (and failing) to drive through the snow with the Benny Hill theme on a continuous loop.

I watched KHOU, that was pretty funny. General theme was "Ice is slippery!" repeated over and over ad nauseum.

I know it's not much for folks still in Iowa to deal with (grew up in Clinton, drove to swim practice countless times when school was canceled), but put it in perspective. This is extreme weather down here. There is no equipment to deal with it at all. Think about the snowfall that occurred earlier this week. That is what it's like down here, even though the amounts are much lower.

Re: 1/4/11 TX/Southeast Winter Storm

One of my friends from high school now lives in Austin and schools/work all shut down with this on the ground as of last night:

Moved down here a couple years ago and still chuckle when they think they might get snow. Lots of places shut down. Unfortunately I was at work this morning like normal. They also stated they had all 12 deicing trucks ready and two trucks that could salt roads ready to go. Luckily most of the roads were melting and clean enough around lunch.
