2-20 Bracketology

Mizzou could possibly get sent to Lousiville. Columbia is nearly equidistant from Louisville and Omaha. It's probably better fit for Mizzou to get sent to Omaha because there aren't many top teams out west though.

Can't play another Big 12 team in second round. Both Missouri and Kansas are likely to be placed in Omaha unless one of them really tanks. That boots ISU and other Big 12 teams from possibly playing there.

Oh, I was assuming either Mizzou or KU would be there, not both. If both are, then I agree we can't be.

From reading these daily bracketology threads I'm beginning to think that we don't want an 8 or 9 seed.

As long as we're not in Kentucky's pod, it really doesn't matter to me whether we're a 7 or an 8. I'm not scared of any other 1s.

Let's get in, and worry about the rest from there! I agree that Kentucky would be the worst #1 seed as they would be the most athletic team we'd face (see Baylor on steroids).

Also, how could this not scare you?

Give me Michigan State as a #1 seed in the second round... our bigs may struggle a little, but would be a good matchup.

First off, I don't pay any attention to these "experts" brackets, especially when you get past the first 2 seeds. So admittedly, I don't know anything, but I smell a first round matchup with Creighton. The committee really likes to create interest this way and I think there is a pretty good possibility our seeds could fit for a first round game. I'm not sure Creighton should get to play in Omaha, but we could meet up in another pod somewhere. Anybody else think this is a good possiblity?

GO CYCLONES!!!

While I also want to avoid Kentucky, especially in Louisville, I'm not sure why people are of the opinion that we deserve better. We're more than likely going to be standing at 10-8 in-conference at the end of the year with no impressive out-of-conference wins and no impressive in-conference road wins. If the bubble weren't so incredibly soft this year ISU fans would probably be panicking that this team hasn't done enough to get into the tournament.

I'd much rather play Michigan State than Syracuse/Kentucky. Mich State rebounds very well and plays very tough defense but I think we'd have a better chance against them than being "out athleted" by Syracuse/Kentucky.

Give me Iowa St vs Mich St in round 2. How bittersweet would it be to be a huge underdog against a team we've been trying to avenge for over a decade. If we lose- oh well we were supposed to. Chris Allen would be licking his chops for sure...

Yeah, there are a lot of story lines in that game. The Draymond Green vs. Royce White matchup would be great to see too.

My wet dream...
3-1 to finish the regular season, 2-1 in tournament while beating KSU and KU in KC, and losing to Missou in the final seconds.

24-10 record and a 6 seed in the NCAA tourney (play in Albuqueque) and we make it to the second weekend.

I like our chances against Syracuse. I think we could shoot around that zone with Royce at the high post. Then again, I thought that against Baylor too...

I wouldn't mind getting Syracuse, either. Could get scorched, but could find ways to exploit the zone, as you said.

And I also thought the same thing w/ Baylor, too, and was wrong.

Plus, Syracuse has a history of tournament flame-outs (or at least not playing above its seeding). Downside: Every 8 or 9 years, SU makes the Final Four and beyond, and is about due.
