First off, the team now looks solid. But looking ahead to next year.. This seems to be the only major hole (hwt needs improved also).
Everyone will be back from 125-149. Insert Carr at 157. 174 - 197 will be taken care of with Coleman, Shapiro, and Colbray. Gremmel (or Duggen) takes care of hwt.
Who are they actively recruiting to fill that hole? Jennings and Straw will be Seniors and can battle it out next year for the spot. Will Mulder, Battani, or Judge prove to be D1 quality? To content for a trophy at Nations Cyclones need a top recruit or transfer.. Maybe Josh Shields wants to transfer once Valencia comes back or Jesse Vasquez (going to be elite in college) wants to commit. Any ideas?

I don't know, but is Carr a definite 157 or is he possibly the 165 and a 149 guy would fill 157. I haven't seen Carr wrestle live so I truthfully don't know if he could roll 165 easy or not.

I would say that a proven transfer or high level commit would be best case, but i really think that Jennings was coming around before the injury and that the "hole" wouldnt be as bad as it seems by his senior year. I would bet that by next year Jennings/Battani would beat most if not all juco AA's that would potentially transfer in

While I agree we have the major hole at 165, we need to upgrade talent across the board. With that being said, we need an immediate impact transfer (someone like Shields would be amazing) - that is the great thing about the new transfer rule IMO. We're not in on any elite HS 165lb kids that I know of. Not sure we are after Vasquez much anymore which I think is maybe due to weight projection. I doubt he is a 165 in college.

I'm no expert but after seeing Carr wrestle in person, I don't think he had the frame of 165 guy. At least not yet. I thought he look quick as hell and adding more pounds on him would likely slow him down a little also.

I know nobody outside of staff and administration knows the exact answer or even a solid guess, but are we sitting on some scholarships? It sounds dumb, but would make a little sense if we are. I would guess Miklus has a decent scholly, one year and get an immediate upgrade. We have a young group and if you hand out scholly cash left and right over 1-2 years, you are left with what Prohm had when he showed up. Good group to work with, but no money to hand out until those graduate and then you scramble and hope you got the right fits.

I think it would make sense to have sat on a little from those that left so you can spread some out. What Prohm is trying to do know.

I think if the right transfer came along, Dresser will find the money for him

I agree. That's the nice thing about transfers, it gives you a better idea how they compare college wise, if their grades are ok and then opens up money a little quicker with less guessing.

If that is true, I would imagine Tate Battani

Agree, unfortunately (not a swipe at Battani) we are limited with options right now. Although I will say that at least we are not finding one at Casey's right now. Dislike pulling a redshirt, but at least it was a weaker spot to start with and not a high probable place like Miklus.

This is the unfortunate part of how far we had fallen. This coaching staff has done a nice job of making our first stringers more competitive. The next step is building depth and that one takes a while.

I'm not aware of any other options than to wrestle Battani until Jennings comes back.

While not to say we are at that level but just for a comparison. Penn state and Iowa also have spots where they consider holes to be. I know their version of a hole is better than ours, but it seems like those guys should drop from possible champ to a placer when they have issues, but I believe they didn't qualify their whole lineups last year. So our situation is not a totally uncommon thing.

Its nice to be concerned about 1-2 weights and not thinking we have 2-3 good weights out there and wondering how we can get a lineup to compete with Ohio.

Sounds like somebody might be dropping down from 174 also. No not Coleman!
Assume it would be somebody who has already used their redshirt. Between Franklin, Entriken, and Southard, I'd like to see Mac if he can get down and manage 165.

Not sure who can make the cut. But to think most of these guys are probably not projected to be 4 year starters, I would be okay with anyone that can make the cut and wants to compete.

So assuming they are just starting that cut, which is just a guess, how soon would they be able to get there under current weight cutting restrictions? I'd hate to see another situation like Parker last year where the person just doesn't have enough matches at the weight.

Thought I read somewhere that Schumacher might be making the cut down to 165. Still a true freshman like Battani though.
