He's not a "name" at all, but he might very well be an outstanding coach. If he's able to recruit well to Harvard - he's had 14 guys sign NFL contracts for crying out loud - from HARVARD - he shouldn't be able to do well at ISU, I would think.

And his name being bantied about for jobs like ND and Penn State doesn't hurt matters, I wouldn't think.

And yet he's not the man for Syracuse? It's like they have a Hawk complex or something.

I like him more and more, too. The early "get to know you" stories with this guy would really be something. Compare that to the Warden on the other side of the state, and we've won that PR war.

Since I know at least Courtney is reading, thought I'd take a moment and give props to the Ames Tribune thus far in the coaching search.

You guys have been doing a great job keeping abreast of the latest news and are presenting it well, keep it up!

One thing he does is the color commentary on radio for NFL games. He was doing last nights Colts-Jaguars game on the westwood one network. And he is darn good at it too. Very insightful and interesting.
 
I have been traveling all day. Can I get a 1 or 2 sentence summary of today's actions?
 
If our new coach is coaching in the football game tomorrow night and that is why it hasn't been announced, let it be Bronco Mendenhall.
 
Has there been any mention of Frank Solich? Pretty solid guy who I think would stay at ISU for the duration.

Additionally, he's had a few years now to make recruiting inroads in Ohio, which is rich with FB talent. Ohio struggled a bit this year, but I think Solich-ISU would be a good fit.

Good luck in your search. As for Chizek leaving...good riddance!

I don't want Solich anywhere near Ames unless he's bringing his Bobcats into Jack Trice for a beating...
