12/19/2008 Official Coaching Search Thread

He's doing what you think he's doing.

He's teaching a sports management class at San Diego State and fishing. When the SDSU opening came up he indicated that he was more than happy retired and fishing.

I hope we would be a step up from SDSU, but it sounds like he's happily retired.

Appreciate the info jumbo. But I don't see the reason he left Cinncy. And he went from Cinncy to Harvard, right? No stops between?
From: Harvard's Murphy not on Hot Seat, doesn't want to be - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com Live Scores, Standings, Stats

The answer is almost a private one: His mother was terminally ill in Boston, and the Harvard job happened to be open. His mother never recovered, but at least Murphy was there for her. He never left Boston.

Jamie has way to much class to go after Barnett. I think Terry Bowden at least needs an interview. His track is good at Auburn and even though he has not coached for sometime he still in my eyes knows football extremely well. Give the man a call Jamie.

Definitely odd of him to go from Cincinnati to Harvard...unless, based entirely on his bio, he saw his "goals" at Cincinnati complete and willinginly moved on.

It definitely sounds like this guy can flat out coach though.

One thing that has been accomplished is we are mentioned on all the college football shows. I read that JP came back to Ames but is he still there? If he is then it would seem that his work is done and he could be working on a contract with a lawyer or agent. If that is the case then Patterson sounds very realistic.

I'm feeling really, really, really good about this search now. If we get the guy I want us to get and think Pollard is waiting for - this could very well allow us to come out ahead.

Go get 'em Jamie!

Props to you doing good homework.

Neat story. I think we can do better, but I'd take him over Stoops.

But that issue is gone - Stoops that is.

After reading a bit about him, I would not be at all disappointed with this hire, though I don't think he's the guy we're going to end up with.

He's not a "name" at all, but he might very well be an outstanding coach. If he's able to recruit well to Harvard - he's had 14 guys sign NFL contracts for crying out loud - from HARVARD - he shouldn't be able to do well at ISU, I would think.

And his name being bantied about for jobs like ND and Penn State doesn't hurt matters, I wouldn't think.
