10:34 AM Update - Players know nothing

THis will be VERY awkward if these rumors are not true. Can you imagine being Greg Mc on the tailgate tour next month if he does not leave. "Come shake my hand and take a picture before I leave or get fired."

Good thing this doesn't happen during a tailgate tour: can you imagine he accepts the job in the middle of the tour, gets a call from his agent and then asks youL: "do you want to take a picture with me, the new CREIGHTON basketball coach ?"

I think he's probably contemplating it and giving JP the option to offer him a competing offer. The only place to confirm he's accepted is the one news story from omaha yesterday. No other source has said he accepted the offer.

wouldn't that be hillarious if jp got mcdermott to stay with a nice raise and extension.:twitcy:

Ha! That would be the ultimate Cyclone situation. Everything points to him leaving, fan excited and have already started to "select the new coach", former players poking fun, current players concerned - then - he's staying after all.

Here's the question i have......

Why are Buckley and Hamilton still allowed into the practice facility. If they've already indicated they're leaving, then we should not allow them to continue to use the Iowa State Facilities.....

When you have someone who is leaving for whatever reason, its not good to have that mentality around your team....seems odd to me.

The only public comment he would have at this point would be if he was staying. I seriously doubt he would tell the AP he was leaving before talking to the team. This situation seems to be developing very slowly today.

From Peterson's blog, what are Justin Hamilton and Buckley doing going into the locker room if they are transferring?

My guess would be that a courtesy call on the President would be why he would be on campus.

Good point.

But where have you seen that they are? I only read Boozer, Scotty and LaRon.

Edit: N/M. I see now. Yeah, that seems messed up.

My guess is combination of waiting for assistant coaches to get back on campus from recruiting trips and GMac making his decision. While I think he will go, it doesn't surprise me that he is thinking it through. As much as it is likely a smart career move, even though he is moving down, (rather than get canned next year) I suspect with Greg's character leaving his players and the university is not an easy decision for him.

I will be surprised if he doesn't go, but I will be shocked if he rushes it, and fails to go with class and do it the right way.

You're telling me if you quit your job you couldn't hang around your office and use their internet, phone and printing services for a few months?

I find it strange that even ESPN has reported it as a done deal along with info about the contract. All the while, JP and none of the players seem to be saying anything. I would think by now, someone from ISU would have said something confirming things.

yes it has be official if ESPN has it right?
But this is Chizik all over again... i smell another Paul Rhoads hire.

I think it is safe to say we can go ahead and accept the one fact that matters in this whole ordeal today. Greg McDermott's time as head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones is over. There is no way he can step back onto that court letting all this rumors fly around, and nor should JP let him back on the floor. I don't care if he doesn't end up at Creighton, after this it would be a wise marketing decision to just pay the man to sit at home. Like was mentioned earlier the silence is deafening. Bye bye Gmac, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Thank goodness we now have a chance to get this program back on track. The turnover the past few seasons has just been unacceptable. Let's get this right and Go Cyclones.

You have got to be kidding me!!

GM using this to negotiate a better deal for himself at ISU...please!!

If Pollard gave GM a better deal because of this then he better be packing his freaking bags and be ready to head back to Wisconsin as assistant AD in charge of cross country.

I vote we form a group of people who go to Greg's house and starts moving his stuff out for him. Hopefully we can get this moving process expedited a bit, and if he is on the fence on whether to stay or go a little free help might persuade him.

I hope, for the pure sake of watching this message board's reaction, that JP is in the midst of drafting a 11 year, 10 million dollar counter-offer

Not saying I want it to happen or think it's a good idea. But from a looking out for your own perspective if you're McD you have nothing to lose if you want to try to get a longer contract and more money out of it from a bigger conference.

If JP did do it he should be fired on the spot.

true but unless he went behind jp's back which I highly doubt he did jp had to give consent for cu to talk to him.

JP probably called the Creighton AD, gave GMAC a sparkling recommendation, told him to give GMAC a shot, and then pleaded with him to call GMAC and make him an offer. This probably all happened before Creighton even thought of GMAC. JP is a proactive kind of guy. :biglaugh:

Provided that the rumors are accurate and the numbers are remotely true (10yrs, 9 mil)... I can't for the life of me figure what is taking so long?

This seems like a no-brainer for Mac.

Only two downsides I can see all revolve around the fact that it's not UNI. He has to regularly go against his alma-mater, his own kid and good friend.

But career wise - it seems this is as simple a decision as one could have. Gift wrapped even.

Simple guess, they're negotiating with JP to do something about the 800K. :wideeyed:
