07-08 Season

I am counting on Thompson to improve. However, I expect the backcourt to be a strength next season, and I think we'll only need something like 8/6 out of Thompson, and that should be doable for him.

I think some of you are spinning your wheels a little. I remember a little more than 5 months ago a good portion of CycloneFanatic was convinced the football team was going to win more than 6 games. How did that turn out? Sure, this is basketball, where you can get away with less experience than you can in football, and this is GMac's second year, and signs are pointing to positive. But keep in mind this is a very young, inexperienced team that basically had its point guard situation thrown up in the air due to the dirty, rotten NCAA.

Do I think we're a +.500 team? More than likely. But even if the NCAA for the first time in their history admits that they are wrong (which I'm not counting on) and Lucca's able to play the majority of the season, I STILL think 20+ wins and an NCAA birth are a bit unreasonable to expect. And with the NIT's new format, if it plays out like it did last year (where I think several 18-20 win teams were hung out to dry), we might be on the outside looking in on that one as well. I think our expectations have to be in line with where they should have been during the football season - expect to see the team improve week by week, and hopefully by the end of the year we have something to show for it.

Sorry - call me a pessimist on this one... :twitcy:

jdogg, I'd love to see a link where "a good portion" of Cyclone Fanatic thought we were going to win more than 6 football games. If that's true then I need to rethink my stance on Hawkeye Homers. I see a "good portion" of the posters in this thread predicting around 17 wins...not too crazy.

lets shoot for 25 wins.

While we're at it, why not win 'em all? :skeptical:

If we can get Lucca back and almost all of our young/inexperienced guards play up to their potential right away - we could have year in which we surprise many people, including our own fans. I think we're pretty solid in the front court as long as Jiri is healthy, Thompson shakes off the rust and Brackins continues to shine - mixed in with some decent minutes from Cory.

But that's a lot that has to happen.

Plus, we need scoring, something we desperately struggled with last year. In the two exhibition games, it seemed once again the perimeter was how the points are gonna come. Granted, we didn't have Jiri, but that still concerns me, especially as we go on the road.

Here are some interesting polls to look back on...

Lucca's a point guard? I think the PG situation is exactly the same as it was, I just think the rest of the backcourt was thrown a little bit. He's a great passer, but I don't think Lucca was going to be a point guard at all.

And I would say that there was a good portion that thought we were going to win 6 football games.

Man, you beat me to it...

If you add up the percentages, 47.3% of those polled believed that we were going to have at least a 6-6 record. 47.3% to me constitutes a good portion of CycloneFanatic.

Here's another link:

Big 12 North Projections

Notice how many people have us ranked at either the 3-4 spot in the North, which usually corresponds to with a winning record.

On a side note, notice how many people had Nebraska winning the North and Kansas finishing dead last...

Sorry - I don't keep up with the projected starting lineup as much as I probably should - I was under the impression he was going to be running the point.

You know, those old FB projections threads are classic. Somebody needs to start one with a public poll where you vote on how many wins in it. I don't know how, but those things are classic when you look back at them, including all of the idiotic things I said in them.

I would expect an improvement on last season... but a lot depends on lucca. We needs somebody with more size at guard. And it sounds like he just has great passing vision.
