ISU fans at the Nebraska game

I do want to comment about the radio broadcast through Husker.com. In general the announcing crew would back up the officiating by stating that a play was correctly called even when the fans were going nuts. And even though they thought Nebraska was a 3 TD better team they accepted getting beat...

Dear Mr. Barnes, you have a straightforward decision

This is precisely the right time to remind Harrison of the virtues of Ames and ISU especially after he has just met the elite of NC graduates. He doesn’t live in isolation, he is aware of our attitude towards him.

Dear Mr. Barnes, you have a straightforward decision

If you are as good as they claim you will be in college for a maximum of 2 years before moving to the NBA. In the short term there will be no degree for you. There is no guarantee that you will start as a freshman at Kansas or NC. Sitting on the bench will cost you as much as a million per...

Lost in the Frey - ARob

It’s great to have a running game again, keep it up AROB! He looks like he is gaining yards in big chunks but when you check the stats there are several big 12 backs with better yards/carry. Finley (B.U.) is at 9.6 yds/carry Murry (O.U.)) is at 6.8 yds/carry Michael (AM) is at 6.7 AROB is...

Special Teams look solid thus far

Coach Rhoads took a personal interest in special teams and it appears to be paying off. Defensive punt and kickoff coverage has been good. Brandtner continues his steady and effective play. On offense Sims is a threat every time he touches the ball. Aside from one drop, Lenz has improved our...

Please tell me about Taylor Mansfield from Decorah

Does anyone on the board know him or have you watched him in practice? I have only spoken to him twice but he comes across as very likable and humble person. He is not fat but he sure seems massive for lack of a better word. I mean Rashawn Parker was standing near and Mansfield appears to be...

Marquis Hamilton, a man amongst boys

Did you see the practice video Marquis? Jordon Carstens was the same way, quick and nasty! No one wanted to practice against him because you got beat up every play. Write this down, Marquis has a marquee year and moves to the next level. :notworthy:

Anyone more worried about the Offense than the Defense?

Yes, you have every right to be concerned, the coaches are also. But I agree with “cyclonestateâ€￾ the running game will be better than it has been in years. Until Austen grows into the role there will be a lot of short, safe passes (essentially long handoffs) and its going to be fun...

    Tim Griffin on Rhoads

If you have talked to Rhoads you like his enthusiasm and sincerity. He certainly had that impact on me. I have had conversations with both Chezik and Rhoads and there is a dramatic difference. This is why Rhoads will be a capable in-state recruiter once prospects meet him. Tim Floyd was the...

All Iowa Attack vs Martin Bros Select - Live....

I agree with much of the original post. A coach can see as many as 200 players in a tournament which makes it very convenient. This is usually an assistant coach and that’s why you don’t recognize them. When they are impressed by a player they bank that information waiting for a repeat...

    Favorite Johnny Orr story

Johnny has an incredible memory; I think he can remember every possession of every ISU game he coached. He told me the following about a playoff game. We were down 8 points. I put Hornacek in and he goes down and hits a jump shot. We steal the ball back and Jeff hits a second jumper. They...

Future Hawkeye Starting RB: Jeff Brinson

A little over a year ago I cornered Chizik at a Cyclone tailgate. I was well aware of Brandon Wegher but wasn’t sure of how to pronounce his last name. I said Coach what do you think of the Sioux City running back Brandon…….. and I waited for Chizik to fill in his last name. Gene just...

He claims a 42 inch vertical, if so that’s a 10 foot rim. What do you see that I don’t?

    Waterloo Tailgate Tour Stop..

I will be there because I had such a great time last year. This really is a wonderful event. You have access to coaches and usually some players. It’s your opportunity to get answers to questions you have wanted to ask. Rudy

    Great Pyrenees

I owned a not too bright female 15 years ago. She had a passive personality but she did like to visit the neighbors who lived a quarter mile away. She was friendly to all the farm animals especially the cats which would nest on top of her when she laid down in the snow. She only lived 7 years.

Gable Interview. This deserves its own thread.

Over the years I have had some interfacing with Dan and his Dad. Both were Iowa fans as Dan grew up. ISU was the power in the state when Dan went to college. But make no mistake; Dan still carries a credit card in his pocket with “herky the turkeyâ€￾ on its face. Having stated that, Dan has...
