Seriously, what celebrity has to go?

It's easier to say get rid of the reality show stars than to get rid of the American public. I don't mind all reality shows. Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, American Pickers, and Pawn Stars are shows I watch all the time. I also don't mind Ice Road Truckers that much, but don't watch often. The...

    Fox broadcasters

I was watching on one channel that was in HD and right before the end of 3rd quarter it switched to a blue screen and I got nothing. Luckily I found another channel, non-HD, that I could at least see the end of the game.

    Fox broadcasters

The quote I remember most was something about "The Iowa Cyclones up here in Iowa City". It would be nice if they at least paid enough attention to us to get our name and city correct.

Living in & around Des Moines

I have 2 coworkers who live in Polk City and they seem to like it. One has 3 little kids, one has no kids. From what I hear, the only bad thing about PC is driving on 141. It is a little further from the metro area, but it is a nice place to live.

    Best College Football Game Ever?

Is this the one where Boise St did the statue of liberty play towards the end, then the QB proposed to his cheerleader GF? If so, I'd probably agree.

    Life Skills

This. I used to work at a credit union and it's truely surprising how stupid people really are when it comes to money (or just in general).

    Tonight is the night

I knew within a month of dating my husband that we would get married, and had often talked about the idea with my mom. Three years later he proposed without asking, and I'm fine with it. My mom was ticked he didn't ask permission - mostly because my brother did some elaborate proposal a couple...

Who here has their birthday off from work?

I'd take a week off work around my birthday if it meant I didn't have people I never talk to coming over to wish me a happy birthday. I love it that most of my co-workers tend to forget my birthday until mid-afternoon. I get more work done that way, and still get some birthday treats. I kinda...

State Fair: Love it or Hate it?

My husband hates the fair. More than hating the fair, he hates the constant coverage by the local TV stations during the fair. We actually stopped watching the news a few years ago because of the constant coverage. I used to enjoy the fair as a kid (and I didn't know there was a midway until I...

    Pazzesco Chop House in Ames

I ate there with my parents the other night and we all enjoyed it. My dad is a strict steak and potatoes kinda guy and seemed to like his steak a lot. The prices were very reasonable. I got the spaghetti and was amazed at how spicy the sauce was. Never had spicy spaghetti sauce before, but it...

    U.S. Diversity

Women in Politics isn't too bad. It's not a fluffer class, but it's certainly easier than a lot of other stuff out there. One of our big assignments back when I was in it (2003??) was to interview a woman who was alive during the Great Depression. I used my grandmother and her sister, and...

    Nook vs Kindle

This is awesome! I had no idea you could do this. My dad and I share books all of the time, so if I ever get through the 200+ paperback books I have at home to read and get a Kindle, I'll definitely consider getting him to get one too so we can share.

    Are Today's Students-Parents Too Connected?

I actually lived with my parents the first two years of college, and I talked to them so rarely that my dad once commented he should start charging me rent. We'd always been close, I just didn't feel the need to talk to them about my classes/job. I do think some parents are way to connected...

    Dish Network or DirectTv?

We actually had DirecTV re-installed this weekend. The contractor guy came out Saturday, had no trouble with one receiver, but the second receiver seemed to be broken. He sat there for 20 minutes complaining about not knowing why it wasn't working, and that he had never had an HD receiver not...

    Your commute?

My trip is only 5 miles, so anywhere from 7-15 minutes, depending on traffic, lights, etc. Sure beats the 45 minute or 1+ hour drives I used to have.

    Dinner With Schmucks

I enjoyed it. Not the best movie in the world, but I'd see it again when it comes out on video.
