    Hason Ward Appreciation Thread

Absolutely. I'm sure the reasoning that it wasn't reviewed is that, theoretically, the defender was trying to play the ball. But only one arm got close to the ball, while the other was around Jones's neck, and making that play in mid-air is more dangerous than what Ward did.

Maybe the BYU player did flop, but I'd say the play was definitely worthy of an ejection.

He started, but his minutes did drop off towards the end. He only played 15 minutes in the NCAA tournament game against Ohio State.

****Official Class Of 2024 Recruiting Thread****

It's funny how that article just ignores the prior two seasons and skips right to 20/21 so that the writer can say "help is on it's way" in reference to Nojus and Pierce. Otherwise a nice article though. Yeah, it's been repeated a few times by Pierce, CW, and others that staff see him as a PG...

NFL: ***Cyclones in the NFL: 2023 season***

Klein had a huge 3rd down tackle there to keep Warren from getting away and getting the first down. That probably shuts the door on the Steelers' chances.

    2023-2024 MBB computer projections thread

I made this post looking at how this team has improved on the "four factors" relative to the previous couple of years, and I think it's cool to see that there is basically no area where Iowa State has a significant weakness. This team can win in so many more ways than Otz's first two teams.

Your intuition is right, and there's been improvement in pretty much every area that the team struggled in Otz's first couple of years. https://www.barttorvik.com/coach-history.php?coach=T.J.%20Otzelberger (Note that the component stats aren't adjusted for opponent, so there might be some...

I agree on some level, that was Hoiberg's deepest team by far, but let's not forget that Thomas and Nader didn't really break out until the next season. In 14/15, both of them averaged fewer than 6 points a game, with Nader at 41% from the field (22% from three) and Thomas only at 33% from...

I think in general, there are enough non-conference matchups in basketball to get a pretty good idea of how the conferences compare to each other. Football is so limited in that regard, with each P5 team probably averaging about 1 non-conference P5 opponent in the regular season. For a look at...

I was about to respond, but @bawbie beat me to it. **** is a much better athlete than MM is or ever will be, which makes his ceiling higher as an all-around scorer rather than just a shooter. Going a little bit further back, I think Doug McDermott is the better overall comparison, at least...

Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

They just put up every true road game that the Iowa women have played. Zero reason to take offense at that. And it really does a nice job of showing how great Iowa State's attendance is compared to most women's programs.

I didn't watch that game, but I think you're right about Baylor. From 2020-2022 they had a top 25 defense all 3 years to go along with a top 15 offense. But last season their defense on Barttorvik was ranked #102, and this year it's #93 (with the #2 offense last year and #3 offense this year)...

A fun note on the offense from last night: Barttorvik had the unadjusted offensive efficiency at 91.1 last night, the worst of the season. But adjusting for the opponent, the adjusted offensive efficiency was 116.9, which would rank 23rd in the country. Houston's defense is that good... Even...

I agree on some level that we just haven't seen the offense show out against Q1 teams. But I'm still not reading into it too much, because I do think the non-conference cupcake games showed that the team has better shooters and scorers overall. Last year's team wasn't as consistently scoring...

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that Ward wasn't good. He did have a solid game overall--most efficient player on offense and those alley-oops were absolutely huge. But I do think that Jones's consistency and reliability down the stretch were important, especially defensively. The two offer a very...

I'm not really saying that Ward should've just let those guys score. My point is that with Jones's rotations, he might not have let some of those guys get to the rim in the first place. If you're not able to acknowledge that Jones is fantastic at being in the right place to help and prevent guys...

*** Official #2 Houston vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

It's tough to tell without being biased of course, but I felt like Houston was very handsy in their defense and typically wasn't called for it (most of their fouls came at the rim or on blocking fouls with the body). For instance, it felt like as soon as MM touched the ball, his defender at...
