We've been using a hodgepodge of suitcases for years and have finally decided to get a nice matching set of luggage. Does anyone have a recommendation for a set they've used and liked? Not concerned about price unless it's obscene. I know I'm a lowly Hawk fan but any recommendations are appreciated!

I hear they carry a full line of sizes that should be able to carry all your hawk apparel.

I doubt if this is what you are asking, BUT. I would invest the most in the overhead compatible selection in whatever line you use. Wife and I have a set of decent Samsonite that we got on a trip to San Diego 25 years ago. I know the largest one of the group has been out of the house 6 or 7 times and that is because this is our 4th house. The carry on piece has been everywhere and easily over 250 "trips" (not vacation like trips).

Not a lot of help, but consider that.

Now that I'm thinking about it, you might have more years under your belt, so you already know what you use the most. Maybe a younger couple will read this and benefit. ha!

How much travel do you do?

A few months ago, we bought a softside TravelPro Platinum® Elite Large Check-In Spinner . It is top quality and would buy that brand again in a heartbeat. With that said, I'd buy one size smaller. The problem is that it's so big, it's very easy to go over the 50lb limit. Our last trip we were only able to fill it about 80% full.

As far as carry on's, I just recently bought my wife a July hard side carry on w/built in charger. It was between this and a monos. She wanted a hard side but if it was me, I'd probably get a soft sided Travelpro. The more bags I've owned, the more I prefer soft side luggage.

To each their own, but what’s wrong with a functional hodge podge?

I feel like luggage is insanely expensive for what it does.

I use to think this and then I spent the next 10 years hearing about the time the zipper broke on our cheap suitcase and she had to pull her bras off the conveyor belt, after a 10 hour flight. Buy once, cry once.

Not saying you need to buy a set of the same brands, but good quality is important.

Here's a thought: nobody cares what kind of luggage you have as long as you don't hog the overhead bin or konk anybody with it when you take it out. As for rollers, they break off quite frequently in transit, doesn't matter what brand. So, don't pack more than you can carry. Problem solved, money saved.

Hate to disagree with ya, dm, but that happens to the "high-end" stuff, too. No luggage is transit-proof.

I’m kind of intrigued by the Ridge Luggage.

Edit. Providing link. Also if I travelled a **** ton I would definitely look in to a system like this. The less ******* around the better imo.

Edit 2: I think their wallets are rip offs and not even close to worth it, but I still like the look of this luggage.

One of my proudest moments from college was rolling into a hotel in Sandusky, Ohio with a black trash bag suitcase on my way to the east coast.

Pilots typically use this stuff. I thought about buying some, but my piggy bank didn't have enough in it.
