I just spent a few grand getting a new patio poured in the backyard, now it's time to put in a hoop. My wife plans to use the patio for "entertaining" and the like, so wants me to get a portable system rather than an in ground.

Anyone have a decent goal on wheels that is solid and doesn't cost a mint?

Great thread because we're in the process of getting a hoop. We would like one embedded into concrete for our driveway. Would love suggestions/tips.

I picked up a portable one last year at Costco and we've been happy with it. Getting the sand into the base was kind of a pain in the *** but it's been a good hoop for the price.

I've had a few friends put in nice embedded hoops and they all said that they would hire the install out next time.

This one is working well for me.

First of all, I have never seen a portable hoop that was worth a ****. Tell the Mrs that an in-ground can be used to hold up decorations for parties, so it will be great for entertaining. :)

I have a Lifetime in-ground hoop that must be pushing 15 year old now. It's been very solid for me for a long time, quality product, and it was like $200. I moved it once when I put in a new garage and had to pour some addl concrete. It takes a little patience to install, but if you can use a wrench and have an extra pair of hands it is not complicated.

A couple small parts do rust over time, and the backboard had to be replaced when it was shattered (cracked due to kid shooting it w/ BB gun). But very strong value for money. I always thought the "big name" brands over $1,000 were ridiculous for a bball hoop.

Adjustable height 48" model for <$300 now.

Lifetime seems much more reasonable than goal setter. Even the higher end versions. I'd like to keep the materials and install cost under $1500 if possible, but also want this thing to last until the kids are grown.

It depends on what you're looking for. The high end hoops are going to be more stable, provide a truer bounce, and kids will be able to do whatever they want to it without hurting it. You get what you pay for.

We bought a goal setter from Backyard Adventures in Urbandale. Previous owner of the house had one but took the hoop with them (left anchor in the ground). We bought the hoop during a March Madness sale and it took about 20 min to install as all we had to do was drop it on the existing anchor. Some may not care, but I do think you notice a difference in quality in the backboard. Cheaper hoops can feel more “plastic” and the ball doesn’t have the normal bounce off the backboard. Like it’s dampened. Goal setter reflects the feel of playing in a nice gym imo

Have a goalsetter and would never recommend anything else. That thing is a great system and built like a rock. Had that storm come through my neck of the woods about a week ago. 80 mph, sustained, winds for 30 minutes. Took out 3 trees, including the complete uproot of one mature tree. The hoop didn’t even budge, and I have the 72” backboard (a lot of wind resistance).

****'s is having a 20% of sale today so gonna head over there and purchase something. Don't need top of the line but don't want cheapest of cheap.
