*** Official West Virginia vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

We were away from the house at game time so we set up YouTube TV to record it. I was a bit flabbergasted to see the recording started with 11 minutes left in the first half - at least now I realize that’s when ESPN2 actually went to the ISU game in the first place.

Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

I did enjoy the one bit of yesterday’s game I saw where she was driving the lane and got fouled, as she’s dribbling. She immediately started gesturing that she was in the act of shooting and should get free throws. It didn’t work, lol.

They did indeed. It‘s actually kinda neat, players and even some of the announcers were trying shots from there before & after the game, I heard. It’s just like painting a stadium seat a different color where a record-setting home run landed.

    Speed camera

The 380 cameras in Cedar Rapids have definitely improved the safety of traffic flowing through the S-curve, there’s no debate. In fact, I find most vehicles end up slowing down too much on the sharp curve on the west side of the river, oftentimes dropping down to around 50 mph (60 mph is a good...

    Speed camera

When Cedar Rapids turned on their cameras on the I380 S-curve some years back, it was no secret - they made it very well known they’d start sending out tickets, and if you were clocked at 12+ over, you’d get one. A couple of weeks later one of my co-workers was telling me how angry his daughter...

I think, now that you mention it, that Woodley Park is the station with the longest escalator.

***Official 2024-25 College Football (non-ISU) Thread***

I mean, it IS nice that Iowa (and Deacon Hill) is now the obvious, widely acknowledged national poster boy for “Scoring is down” lol

Ah, but are they including money for him to keep up that ridiculous Kewpie-doll haircut?

Plus, if you stay near the Metro stop in Rosslyn you get to ride the seemingly unending escalator down to the station. It’s really long! And yet there’s another Metro stop (on the north side of DC: I think) that has an even longer escalator!

You can go into the Building Museum without paying (or at least you could a few years ago) - the actual exhibits are behind ticketed areas but the building itself was a great place to cool off on a hot day.

The Old Post Office is now a hotel - it was the Trump Hotel, but it was sold last year. I’m guessing you can still get up to the observation tower (which is small, but does have a great view) but I don’t know for certain. The Newseum was one of my very favorite places to visit, but alas, it...

It has that great covered patio in the middle of the building, where you can sit and eat a snack from the cafe. Another nice lesser-known place to eat is the cafe in the National Museum of the American Indian. Lots of Native American food offerings there.
