Peter Jok

I assume good AAU coaches get perks from large Universities. Would I be correct in saying that?

Does anyone remember the open mic converstion between Pete Taylor and LE regarding his opinion on JS? It wasn't a ringing endorsement for little Jakey.

I think GMac has two options: (1) Kiss Jake Sullivan’s arse; or (2) Go to people giving his program money and get them to yank it. Personally, I think it would take a lot less time and energy just to suck it up and kiss his arse.

But look how far Mac would have to bend over

I agree with you though...

It's mind-boggling how those criticizing Sullivan don't even know him. He's very good at what he does, has built up a great AAU program by hard work, great coaching, and dedication to improving each athlete/client that he has.
Parents of these athletes (most of them Cyclone fans themselves) swear by him.
Oh, and this just in: Bill Fennelly and Jake get along just fine...

I just hope he's not criticizing GMac or ISU publically or in private. Is he?

Which one drives the ship...Boys or Girls?

That's a pretty bold statement - do you know him at all?
Have met him...Do not know him on a personal level.

I take it you do...So enlighten me, what drives him in the way he talks about ISU?...because my impression is he tells a lot of people(parents and athletes) what they want to hear. After all he is a salesman...

I have never heard him criticize GMac - knowing how Jake lives his life, I would bet he RESPECTS GMac's code of living and dedication to his family, as Jake has seen the other side (LE).

Yes and on the radio...

Ah....my favorite subject: Jake Sullivan and how he hates Iowa State. No one says that Jake should deliver kids to Iowa State (but hell, most other schools have that....), but it would be nice if Jake didn't bash our program. Listening to him on he radio in the last couple of years, you get the picture that Jake would like Harrison to go anywhere other than Iowa State. And when Jake talks about Harrison's choices, he'll go out of his way to heap praises on the other schools, but never mentions that HE went to Iowa State and it worked out pretty good for him. (considering that we gave him an award for being a top 15 player of all time here). I can understand Jake, as father or big brother figure (?), with Harrison advising him to make sure he considers all of his options, I just don't feel like it is too much to ask that he not fight against Iowa State as a choice, which you get the feeling that he is doing.

That being said, Jake was on the radio during the state boys tournement. I listened to that interview and felt a lot better about his feelings towards Iowa State. He mentioned that Harrison had been to Duke twice and insinuated that is probably one of his top choices, but he volunteered Iowa State as a place that Harrison might end up. He praised Colvin, saying he was a real player. He also had nice things to say about Dykstra. And he had nice things to say about Doug McDermott (one wonders if it is a coinsidence that Doug has improved since switching from AIA back to Martin Brothers).

Something about Jake rubbed me the wrong way after the LE debacle.....not exactly that he wanted him gone, which was kind of understandable, but that he started really wearing his religion on his sleeve and that just isn't me. And I find it incrediably ironic that the former player we have running the AAU program in central Iowa is the one former player that doesn't seem to love Iowa State. It is a part of our curse as a program.......there are a lot of former players who would be really, really great ambassadors for our program and while they wouldn't deliever players to Iowa State (I don't know if Harrison would end up here no matter what), but would for sure point out that Iowa State certainly isn't a bad place to be (one that jumps to mind is Kantrail Horton who knows nothing of Greg McDermott and told Gilstrap that Iowa State is a pretty great place).

I don't know that I have ever heard Jake say anything too nice about McDermott. He certainly bashes McDermott's style of play and the quality of athletes he has gotten (with the exception of his latest interview, see my previous post). You WOULD think that Jake would like McDermott. But I have a feeling that they both don't especially like each other.

I have never heard Jake "criticize" ISU. Only in the media, a couple of times, have I heard him speak to GMac's style of play, and that a supremely talented player might feel handcuffed in it.
Yes, he is a salesman - the problem I have seen with that first-hand is when he tells parents how talented/skilled their son/daughter is, and then said son/daughter sits on the bench during their high school games. Parents take it out on the high school coach (Hey, Jake told me...") so I wonder how objective he is when talking to parents.
But that is true with EVERY business like his.

True...But if he is not willing to tell a parent and kids that they are not good enough...Why go out of his way to tell the public that Mac isn't good enough?

Again, if he doesn't like Mac, fine...I'm just saying it is not healthy for ISU basketball.

This just in:

It isn't Jake's fault ISU basketball is not doing well. Jake is a salesman for his program? Really? I would sure as hell hope that's what he is--it is his freaking job. Isn't G McD a salesman for the ISU basketball team? I hope so!!

What does Jake see in the ISU program that his kids will be successful there? Is he supposed to send kids to ISU no matter what the situation is? Is Jake pulling all the strings for these kids?

If G McD was winning games, no one would give a rip what Jake was saying. It would look like sour grapes.

Bottom line: It isn't Jake's fault that we aren't good. Look for another scapegoat.

Very odd post. I went back and looked. Didn't see one person who blamed ISU's last 3 season's on Jake.

I think people just want a fair shake from Jake about sending kids to Iowa State. I don't know how he feels about Iowa State anymore, but as the coach of such a big AAU team in Iowa I hope he at least doesn't steer kids away from us. People are always going to care about what Jake says, as he is an ex player and he runs a big time AAU team in central Iowa.
