What's the deal with the opening week schedule? Why play all these games up north when you have plenty of parks in the warm weather to play in...

Indians at Rangers, makes sense:yes:
Yankees at Orioles :skeptical:
Tigers at Blue Jays, in a dome, makes sense :yes:
Mariners at Twins, in a dome, makes sense :yes:
Athletics at Angels, both likely to have playable weather, why not them both play a home series :skeptical:
Rays at Red Sox...whats wrong with this picture? :unsure:
Royals at White Sox, seems like both could play out in California :skeptical:
Dodgers at Padres, see Athletics and Angels:skeptical:
Cubs at Astros, makes sense :yes:
Nationals at Marlins, makes sense :yes:
Rockies at Diamondbacks, makes sense :yes:
Mets at Reds... :skeptical:
Pirates at Cardinals, you're pushing it...

I just don't know why you'd want your big opening day (today) the same day as the NCAA final. I'll have to watch the 6-9 innings of the Cubs game, same time as the final.

Actually it's not going to be all that bad in KC this weekend. Right now, the forecasted highs are in the 60's.

The first week schedules makes no sense to me. The Boston game has already been postponed and last I checked, Cincinnati was very iffy.

I don't really see a problem with the schedule. It's probably my "Big 12 North" bias coming through where we have to go play in the South when it's cold up here. I don't think it'd be right to just forbid northern teams from playing at home during April. If we're so big on the weather being perfect then start the season in May.

Since you play your divison so much more than the others they try and get some of the games on opening day to draw some good crowds. Not every team draws like the Cubs, Red Soxs and the Yankees

I'll be there! I went to the Royals 2nd home game last year, it was windy and ~30 degrees out and raining/sleeting on and off. It was awful, it was like being at a football game in November, except I didn't get to tailgate for 6 hours before gametime.

I disagree. Opening day draws great crowds at most stadiums regardless of the opponent.

Twins have a sellout against Seattle.

Tigers home opener against Texas on Friday has been sold out for ages too.

Ok, I was just trying to come up with a reason. The Brewers, Twins, Blue Jays,Mariners are really the only teams that should play at home every year to start the year. The Cubs or white Soxs ans one of the New York teams should always play at home to start the year so they don't both play on the same day.

I think there's something to be said about fans wanting their team to be at home to open up the season. I would probably be frustrated if every year my team played on the road to start the season.
