I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with bat removal in the Ames/DM area.? Who did you contact? How much did it cost?
We had a bat in our house again this week. In 1 1/2 years we've had to deal with 5 bats already. I know they are in the attic and at first it didn't bother all that much (except for the dropping). But I'm getting a little fed up with chasing them out or killing them when they get into the living area. They are frightening when you aren't expecting them - especially to my wife and little one. We went to put the 6 year old to bed last night and happened to see one attached to the ceiling in her room. Not cool - especially with the potential for Rabies. We have another on the way and I'm wanting to get the things eradicated before we start using the nursery.

Eradicate the bats or the kids? Cause I suppose either way would solve most of the problems....

We used to have bats in our house at college. They would fly in circles, I'd grab a baseball bat or a broom or mop and when it flys around, do your best Barry Bonds impersonation on it. Once I hit one square and he flew across the room and splatted on my roommate's TV. Don't really know how to eradicate them, but "Bat Baseball" was awfully fun.

I've had two. You need a towel and a tennis racket. And let me tell you, those little bastards are fast.

I don't have much of a problem isolating them and trapping them or getting them to fly out an open window. My problem is that we are going to continue to get bats in the living area from time to time when there is a colony living in the attic.

I'm wondering if anyone has had them professionally removed?

This guy apparently works for an evil bat removal service in Florida :wideeyed:

if it is fying around I just touch it with a shoe box lid, this seems to mess with them and the fall to the floor. I think put them in a shoe box and place them out side. I don' tmind the bats being around outside so much, as we don't seem to have that many bugs around in the summer. But then, I don't have kids either lol
