Because I live so far away now and don't know many more cyclones on the team I was wondering how the team is looking/how the fans like Coach Rhoads?

First time on anything like this, so hopefully I can get filled-in with everything in the great state of Iowa....miss it!

i know the players really like coach rhoads. i don't know much about how practice is going though.

Married last April and have a little boy due June 28th.

:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

You were one of my favorites man, congrats! Others on here that know more i'm sure will be able to tell you more about Coach Rhoads and the players! Things should be getting back to what they were like under Mac.

Thanks Jack and Hilton! Hopefully didn't let you down tooo bad when I played.

Anxious to see how well Coach Rhoads does over the next 3-5 years.

I have high hopes for Rhoads. What has impressed me most about Rhoads is the staff he brought in and his passion. If you look at the coaches that have been successful at ISU (Fennelly, McCarney, etc) they have been passionate coaches that have been able to inspire their team to do great things.

Austin, great to see you around here. You were certainly one of the class acts when you wore a Cyclone uniform. Your drive to help the team succeed at all costs is greatly missed.

Coach Rhoads seems to understand what ISU is all about and is cut from the same cloth as Coach McCarney. Hopefully his success matches that and even surpasses it. He has assembled a heck of a staff that should bring good results with it in the next few years. Unfortunately, I doubt certain parts of that staff (Herman) will remain intact, but if that is the case it means we probably had some successful years. I am very excited to see where we go because it looks like we have the talent and the coaching staff that might finally match up to lead us to some new heights.

rhoads is way agead of shizek as a coach. i predict he willalso be a much better coach than shizik.he is better qrganized and has assembled a much better staff than the previos regime-lets hope that translate into better football and more wins tthan 5-19!!

My initial takes on Coach Rhodes are all very positive.

First he seems like the kind of coach that knows the team is what makes him successful, not the other way around, (see Chizik).

To retain as many players and recruits as he did speaks volumes about him and the coaching staff he's assembled.

I also think it's very important that we have a defensive coordinator with as much experience as ours. He's obviously seen just about everything their is to see, so adjustments to various offensive schemes with available players should be one of his strong suits. Some of Mac's best teams weren't neccesarily stellar on offense, but a solid defense kept us in a lot of games long enough to give us a chance to win. With the key personel we have on offense, if we get that this year, we could be much better than some people expect.

Sorry, my posts can be a little lenghthy, but I'm nothing if not thorough.

Finally, welcome former Cyclone Flynn, it is an honor to have you among our ranks!! Congrats on your marriage and first child, nothing completes you like the love of family!! Hope to hear from soon and often.

To echo other's sentiments around here, welcome aboard Austin! You were definitely one of the my favorite Cyclones as well. Not many guys would accept a position change the way you did, and go on to excel at their new position.

For the record, you got ****ed by the refs during that Nebraska game your senior year... Everyone knows that was a touchdown.

But yeah, it sounds so far like Coach Rhoads is making a positive impression on a lot of people. We've only lost one player so far, and it sounds like a lot of key guys are big fans of his.

I'm really excited about the team and the new coaching staff. I think we have some really solid players coming back in several positions, but we're a little weak on our depth in others.

Welcome aboard! If you haven't had the fan message board experience before, just take everything in with the attitude and toughness that you always displayed on the field. Certain posters can be critical and unappreciative at times.

The most impressive thing about CPR is that I cannot find one person or source throughout his career as a coach that has anything but glowing remarks for the man.

We will beat Iowa this year. Their defense will be challenged by our you never know where the ball is going passing attack

Welcome aboard Austin! It's great to hear from you again.

You are probably my favorite Cyclone ever. What you did for Iowa State University cannot be overstated enough. I think you got a raw deal at the QB position because you were thrown to the dogs and never had more than a blink of an eye to get rid of the football before being sacked. You never had a good shot to show what you could do IMO.

But you took your position change in stride and put your school before yourself, and became our best possession receiver we had. You are a great example for any kid to follow. You will love being a dad and you will be great at it.

I can't tell you much about the new coaching staff, but I'm so glad that Coach Rhoads went to ISU and loves this university. That will go a long way. Chizik couldn't get out of here fast enough... and he knew that from day one. It's gotta be hard to lay it on the line for a guy you know doesn't want to be here and could care less about ISU.

Again... welcome aboard Austin.... good to hear you're doing well.

Notice you're back in Houston area, SRO's at the Northwest Mall at corner of I-290 and 610 is where the cyclone games and sometimes the local clone group gathers. I go there for games not on cable sometimes.

Best Game there ever: The first year Nebraska was beat they had the live feed and didn't go to commercials. During one of the breaks towards the end of the game they showed the entire Nebraska bench crying like babies...sweet.

Austin,

I always enjoyed watching you play. You were the poster child for the way ISU has always played - no matter how the table was stacked against you - you never quit.

But I find it kind of sad to see a former player on here looking for info. When Switzer was fired at OU the new regime wanted nothing to do with the former players and it showed on the field. When Stoops was hired he brought the former players back and OU returned to glory.

Same with Solich being fired at kNU. Callahan wanted nothing to do with the past and the team suffered. Pelini brings the players back and they are heading back in the right direction.

I believe that all former players should have knowledge about the program and what it is doing. Think of the great conversations going on about games from long ago. Dean Carlson talking to AA and how they were a 30+ point underdog to OU and took them to the final 90 seconds before losing. They may have lost but they didn't run scared.

Think of Austin talking to these receivers about the games he was involved in - he might have even had and affect on Bates.

Think of Ellis Hobbs talking with our young DBs or Amundson or Crutchfield speaking with the RBs.

At the end of every work day on my ride home I listen to Omaha sports talk. And it always amazes me when a former player from kNU is on the air. They know everything that is going on in the program.

Our history isn't fantastic but it is who we are and we have had great players. Let them share in how we were the team that knocked kNU out of the rankings after 200+ weeks of being in there. I really wonder how many current players know the history of this program and the players that were proud to be Cyclones?

Welcome aboard Austin. Glad to have former players on here. Just so you know at times there are negative posts about certain players, but I doubt there has been one negative one posted about you. Rhoads from the outside looks like a good hire and a good guy. I bet he would take time to talk to any former player. There are some good linked stories on how practice is going on here as well as a few posters who know what is going on.
